Position Title: Maintenance and Engineering Manager Location: Brownville, NY Responsibilities: Safety Support, participate and exemplify the corporate Mativ Value system as appropriate, with the objective of achieving overall business goals and objectives. Support the Mativ Zero Incident Culture for safety and environmental in the philosophy that all incidents are preventable. Participate and lead zero incident safety culture initiatives such as planned inspections, Velocity reporting and investigations, LLE’s, etc. Ensure that equipment maintenance, design, additions and modifications are done in a manner that satisfy applicable codes, standards and support our safety goals and reduce the risk of injuries as measured by OSHA recordable incident rate. Cost Drive the development and implementation of cost improvement capital projects and programs that ensure a profitable manufacturing facility. Provide engineering support to assist in the maximization of asset TPD, Yield, and Uptime. Include energy and cost effectiveness into the design of all equipment additions and modifications. Actively seek opportunities to improve challenge/support culture in the course of ongoing business. Reinforce support of a perpetual learning and experimenting culture. Lead by example. Honestly assess personnel. Provide regular feedback to direct reports and colleagues (constructive and positive); Set clear expectations for quality personnel. Complete cost optimization projects that provide significant savings through product substitution, reduced variability, improved quality, and higher operating efficiencies. Provide assistance to production in evaluating operation of major equipment and assist in design of modifications and changes required; aid operating personnel to better understand their processes. Utilize process information systems to analyze production trends; assist in troubleshooting and identify possible improvements. Support development and execution of capital projects. Maintenance/Engineering Responsibility Coordinate all phases of project, from justification to start-up, including preliminary design studies, selection of equipment or vendors, and development and implementation of recommendations. Establish project schedules by studying project plans and specifications, calculating time requirements, and sequencing project elements. Maintain project schedules by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, resolving problems. Organize and manage the Engineering, Maintenance and Utility departments as an effective, motivated, responsive unit which can provide timely and competent technical, engineering and maintenance service to efficiently support the mill operating and business objectives. Prepare and manage the P&E Budget to meet time, cost, quality and performance objectives. Develop and implement continuing cost improvement plans and programs that ensure continuity or a competitive and profitable manufacturing facility. Position our assets to support growth initiatives through optimal balance of sustaining, cost saving and strategic capital spending. Assets (materials/inventories, equipment, personnel) properly managed, maintained and developed. Direct report responsibility for Maintenance Supervisor and department oversight and objective setting. Manage capital spending to support strategic initiatives, reduce costs, and sustain and improve operations from a safety, reliability, and environmental standpoint. Prepare and manage the P&E Budget and 3-years capital plans to meet expectations as outlined above. Execute capital projects ensuring successful results within competing constraints. Abide by the spirit of all identified industry safety guidelines, mandates, regulations, and laws. Manage 3rd party engineering as needed to expedite project initiatives. Develop and Enhance Maintenance Talent Pool Continue to maintain and develop the Mechanical and Electrical group’s technical skills. Establish a work environment that encourages involvement, ownership, and personal satisfaction. Environmental Support environmental improvement initiatives. Execute capital plans in compliance with all government regulations and permits. Manufacturing Provide the professional engineering services necessary to maintain, modify or expand the mill equipment and facilities. Qualifications: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university, with strong preference given to electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering candidates. Paper industry experience preferred. Experience: Preferred 3-7 years in a manufacturing operation, ideally with demonstrated maintenance and engineering leadership. This role supports our Brownville, NY facility and the candidate must reside in this area. Relocation is available for the right candidate.
