SUMMARY The primary purpose of this position is to ensure a quality, consistent fermentation and dryer product, which meets the needs of the customer by managing production and dryer processes, personnel, equipment, and inventories during the nightshift. Daily contact with production staff and management. Reports directly to the Production Manager. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Coach employees on safety culture; coordinate safety improvements with Plant safety committee. Coordinate safety improvements as required by Plant Manager. Partner with daytime superintendents for Production departments performance vs. standard technical ratios and department budget. Review quality data daily to monitor chemical and microbiological aspects of product and change process parameters as appropriate to optimize quality of finished products. Provide an appropriate level of motivation and guidance to staff. Maintain written production procedures and ensure that these procedures are followed. Review department shift reports for production concerns and take action as needed. Responsible for completing [and verifying] monthly production reports. Resolve issues with ERP batch reporting. Work with maintenance manager to document and coordinate maintenance work orders, resolve maintenance concerns, and track completion of jobs. Monitor the usage and requisition of production raw materials. Ensure cleanliness of facilities; coordinate the schedule of routine and special cleaning of production areas as needed. Conduct daily personal inspection of both fermentation and dryer facilities. Participate in an on-call weekend rotation for plant issues 1-2 weekends per month. Secondary Duties Special projects as assigned. In conjunction with management, participate in planning of equipment purchase and maintenance, and plan for future equipment needs. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Manage the activities of employees in the Fermentation and Dryer Departments during the night shift. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. Coordinate with Production Supervisor/Dayshift Superintendent to ensure employee development and, when necessary, corrective disciplinary action Coordinate paid time off and production coverage. Ensure that proper training is provided to new and existing employees on production procedures. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsible and accountable for the safety of all assigned personnel. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and e-mail is required. Experience with SAP preferable. Additional safety, food safety, or production management training is preferred. Manage multiple projects, priorities, and people. Ability to analyze all phases of problems, issues, and potential consequences prior to acting. Lean experience preferred. 3-5 years people management experience preferred. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Bioprocess), or a minimum of five years of production management in process manufacturing. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Production: Operate yeast filter press, belt conveyor, mixer-extruder and all associated equipment in accordance with SOPs and training. Ensure the effective functioning of the filter press, belt conveyor, mixer-extruder and all associated equipment all the time. Monitor and ensure the filter cake discharging, including manual scraping as needed. Take product and in-process samples in proscribed manner and frequency. Perform basic laboratory analysis in accordance to the SOP's and plan of control. Follow proper procedures in filter press and packaging processes and complete them as scheduled. Follow established yeast filter press procedures, make adjustments on the processes or processing equipment, manually or through a central processing computer. Notify Superintendent of equipment failures and when major filter press problems or variations in the process are detected. Follow production schedule and notify the Superintendent of production schedule drift. Participate in the equipment cleaning operations in accordance with the plan of cleaning. Responsible for critical control point monitoring in accordance with the plan of control. Follow established cleaning procedures (CIP, COP and open plant cleaning operations). Follow plant maintenance procedures as needed. Learn and comply with all established safety rules and food safety rules of the Plant as well as general company policies. Responsible for reading and understanding material safety data for chemicals used in drying process. Maintain control sheet for processing parameters/procedures and equipment, simple calculations and computer controls. Enter information on filter press control sheet for filter press operation. Monitor and control the yeast cake storage in the filter press hopper, mixer extruder and belt conveyor Keep the process areas and control room clean. Verify accuracy of all information. Communicate effectively with Superintendent, Dry Yeast Department Manager in plant operations and adherence to, the weekly production schedule. Communicate effectively with the employees of the Dry yeast department (dryer operator, drying support operator, relief operator, packaging supervisor and operator). Notify maintenance department of equipment problems that cannot be solved independently by written work order requests. Coordinate daily with maintenance department for equipment PMs, repairs, and equipment's availability. Coordinate with laboratory when tests are needed; deliver samples for testing. Use a computer for E-mail, Excel spreadsheets and procedures in the Dry Yeast Department. Input Oracle information as required. Maintain daily inventory for daily filter press production and cleaning needs with General Services. Participate in Dry Yeast Department continuous improvement team. Special projects as assigned. ABOUT Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technicians have expertise in the most conventional and unconventional explosives to ensure the secure disposal of explosive weaponry. They are on call to respond to any type of ordnance, and they receive specialized training to handle chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. They investigate and demolish natural and man-made underwater obstructions, prepare coastal regions for amphibious landings, and warn about potential threats at home and abroad. Whether getting the job done in a bomb suit or by utilizing state-of-the-art robotic technology, Navy EODs are trained to use the most advanced tools of their kind in a role that's vital to the safety of servicemembers and civilians. RESPONSIBILITIES As a Navy EOD Technician, you will have many far-ranging duties that can cast you on missions across the world. Your duties may require you to: Detonate and demolish hazardous munitions, pyrotechnics and outdated explosives Work with cutting-edge technology to remotely disable unsafe ordnance Perform parachute or helicopter insertion operations Support law enforcement agencies Clear waterways of mines in support of the Fleet Your unique skills and knowledge will add to the strengths of other Special Operations units, as well as your own. One assignment may have you parachuting from 17,000 feet, while the next may deliver you via an 11-meter Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB). It all depends on which unit you're supporting and the type of mission to be completed, as well as the required equipment weight of each team member, weather conditions and other parameters. TRAINING & ADVANCEMENT Becoming an EOD Technician is no easy process. While the rigorous 51 weeks of training are both physically and mentally grueling, you will be rewarded with unrivaled leadership opportunities, first-rate compensation and respect. After two months of recruit training in Great Lakes, Ill., your EOD training will begin. EOD Prep Course of Instruction (3 weeks) – The EOD training pipeline starts with preparatory training in Great Lakes, Ill. Candidates work on swim stroke development, long-range swims and physical conditioning. Diver Training (9 weeks) – Next comes dive school at the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center (NDSTC) in Panama City, Florida. Training covers basic concepts of scuba diving as well as dive physics, physiology and basic dive medicine. Candidates also learn about equipment such as the MK16 underwater rebreather. EOD School (42 weeks) – After successfully completing dive school, candidates transfer to Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal School at Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. This training is comes in four sections, each teaching how to render safe or defuse specific types of ordnance. Air Ordnance Division – Focuses on bombs and missiles Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) – Includes "homemade bombs" Nuclear Ordnance Division – Covers basic nuclear physics and radiation monitoring and decontamination procedures Underwater Ordnance Division – Emphasizes torpedoes and other underwater explosives as well as underwater search techniques Basic Parachute Training (3 weeks) – After completing basic EOD school, graduates attend Basic Airborne Training ("jump school") at Fort Benning, Ga., where they qualify as a basic parachutist. EOD Tactical Training (3 weeks) – The final phase of training is in San Diego, Calif. It teaches helicopter insertion (fast-rope, rappel, cast and special patrol insertion, and extraction rigging), small arms/weapons training, small unit tactics (weapons, self-defense, land navigation and patrolling) and tactical communications (satellite and high frequency). Upon successful completion the EOD training pipeline, graduates are assigned to EOD Mobile Units where they gain advanced on-the-job training and experience as members of Mobile Teams, Carrier Strike Group/Expeditionary Strike Group Companies, Naval Special Warfare Companies and Marine Mammal Companies. Advanced Training – EOD technicians may pursue a number of advanced training options to hone and specialize their skills Helicopter insertion training Basic parachute training and parachute water insertion training Advanced Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (AIEDD) Jumpmaster training Small unit tactics Small Arms Instructor Language school (Defense Language Institute) EOD Communications (tactical radio communications) For those with further leadership aspirations and a college degree, Officer roles are available – providing the opportunity to lead and train others.
