Join to apply for the Network Technician role at HERTFORD COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS The job of Network Technician consists of installing, troubleshooting and maintaining computer hardware, telecommunication, audio visual, peripheral equipment, and video security; diagnosing and repairing hardware; providing technical support to site administrators; and resolving school site operational issues. Responsibilities Attends school site and departmental meetings for the purpose of providing and/or gathering information relating to job functions. Coordinates repair work schedules with site personnel for the purpose of minimizing disruption of services and/or inconvenience. Diagnosis equipment failures with computer, network, and instructional media equipment for the purpose of identifying needed repairs and/or ensuring equipment is in proper working order. Installs computer hardware, peripherals, instructional media equipment, security cameras, application software, etc. at individual school buildings. Maintains electronic documents, files and records (e.g. work order logs, inventory, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, conveying information and/or providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail. Orders parts for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items as needed. Prepares electronic materials and communication (e.g. status reports, instructions, user guides, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities. Repairs computers, peripherals, and instructional media equipment (e.g. phone systems, projectors, video cameras/recorders, document cameras, interactive LCD panels, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining equipment in safe and functional operating condition. Researches a variety of topics for the purpose of maintaining confidence in decision making and ongoing education. Responds to a variety of questions from school administrators, teachers and other staff, for the purpose of providing information, guidance or referral. Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness and in a clean atmosphere. Qualifications Minimum experience: Job-related experience is required. JOB TITLE: Maintenance Technician-(Carpenter) QUALIFICATIONS: Valid NC Driver’s license High School Diploma or GED REPORTS TO/EVALUATED BY: Director of Operations SUPERVISES: N/A Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled carpentry tasks in an effort to ensure the safe and efficient operation of fixtures, apparatus, and other elements in the trade area and to properly maintain and repair school facilities. Examples of work include building and repairing frameworks, supports, and simple wooden articles. Work also includes repairing roofs and ceilings, doors, walls, cabinets, furniture, and floor tiles. Work involves performing potentially hazardous tasks such as erecting scaffolds and ladders. The employee is given specific instructions for work to be done and a higher level employee is generally available to assist in solving any problems that may arise. Essential Job Functions Erects, moves, and works from scaffolding and ladders; attends to the need for safety precautions. Performs semi-skilled roof, ceiling, and door and door hardware repair functions. Assists in the repair of drywall and moving or altering of not-load bearing walls. Assists in making and repairing cabinets. Replaces floor tile. Measures and marks materials for cutting. Cuts and drills wood and other materials using hand and power tools. A Day In The Life Of This Position On a daily basis, the Maintenance Carpenter will have the opportunity to utilize their problem‑solving skills to identify and eliminate small defects in buildings and furnishings that could distract from a positive working, studying, and living environment. They will typically start the day by prioritizing work orders and coordinating tasks with the correlating teams then diligently work through those diversified responsibilities. Typical handyman skill (basic repairs to a wide variety of building components). Familiarity with basic hand and power tools. The ability to follow instructions, problem solve and complete tasks as instructed. The capacity to work both in a team setting and independently, with a strong emphasis on precision and correctness. The willingness to easily adapt to changing schedules and job duties while demonstrating initiative and dependability. The innate ability to prioritize tasks along with a willingness to learn new skills and processes. The ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including on telephone, and to understand and follow instructions. The ability to lift heavy material and perform any activities such as balancing, bending/stooping, climbing stairs, crawling, crouching, climbing ladders, kneeling, using repetitive motion or reaching above shoulder level. A clean driving record and a valid driving license. Preference Will Be Given To Those Who Have The Following Attributes Knowledge of building codes. Comfortable working at height (ladders, aerial lifts, scaffolding, on roofs). Physical Requirements Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including table saws, radial arm saws, and drill presses, hammers, saws, planers, ladders, tape measures, levels, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle (i.e., tractors, bobcats).
