Summary About the Position: Oahu has many outdoor activities all year round including surfing, paddling, diving, fishing, and hiking. Duties Help Serve as a Brigade Safety and Occupational Health Specialist responsible for management of ground and tactical safety programs. Direct and advises mishap investigation boards, convened to determine causal factors that result in fatalities, serious injuries, or substantial property damage. Interpret policy instructions on safety requirements formulated by other Federal Government agencies, assuring their proper application to division safety and health programs. Research new factors bearing on accident rates and/or conditions, reviews new technology in the safety and health area transmitting useful information to using Army organizations Participate directly with the preventive medicine staff in assessing work conditions affecting the health of people relative to hazardous elements. Requirements Help Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles. This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time. This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime. Employees may be required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series. This position requires the incumbent to obtain ACTEDS certified CP 12, Level 1 Professional Certificate within 12 months of coming onto the position. This position requires the incumbent to obtain ACTEDS certified CP-12, Level 1 Certificate in Explosives Safety within 12 months of coming onto the position. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
