Position Title: Financial Aid Counselor Job Description: The financial aid counselor has the responsibility for providing financial aid advising and counseling to undergraduate students and parents for the main campus regarding financial aid application process, financial aid packages and additional options for funding. The financial aid counselor is responsible for the review of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and awarding of institutional, federal financial aid. The counselor is responsible for the daily loading of data files from the U.S. Department of Education and the review of the FAFSA data. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Play a critical role in promoting financial literacy among students and helping students and parents navigate the process of financial assistance. Assists students and parents in the completion of FAFSA and other financial aid forms Reviewing and evaluating applications to determine returning students' eligibility and awarding. Responsible for the import of data via Ed Connect for COD and ISIR files. Review of subsequent ISIRs and C codes resolution Review daily change files provided by other campus partners to determine any impact/adjustments to a student's financial aid eligibility. Responsible for monitoring COD to ensure MPN's, entrance, and exit counseling requirements are met. Monitor PowerFaids to review for outstanding student items and provide reminders as needed to enforce deadlines. Serve as a backup for bridging data between the various systems used on campus to ensure a constant flow of data between offices. Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of Title IV financial aid programs. Provide support for financial aid outreach activities for the main campus and Frederick campus events. Job Requirements: Education, Experience, and Skills: A bachelor's degree with at least two years of experience working in a financial aid office is required. Must know Title IV federal financial aid regulations. Working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite ( Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience with financial aid software programs, with a preference towards PowerFaids, Edexpress, and EdConnect. The position requires great contact with the public and the ability to get along well with all types of people. Conducts financial aid workshops for admissions events on campus. Responsible for assisting with reviewing and updating the financial aid procedures manual. Conducted presentations and met with students and parents via Zoom. Performs other duties as assigned . POSITION AUTHORITY : The Financial Aid Counselor reports directly to the Director of Financial Aid.
