POSITION: CHIEF CUSTODIAN – LEVEL IV Location: Magnolia Middle School Organizes, schedules, and coordinates all facets of the custodial program at a level IV facility within the guidelines established by the Facilities Management Department. Operates and maintains boilers, air conditioning, and all other auxiliary equipment as a Grade 4 stationary engineer (Level IV classification is determined by Harford County Public Schools). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees, prepares, and maintains facilities across large school campuses, including stadiums, tracks, turf fields, tennis courts, auxiliary gyms, swimming pools, etc. Maintains knowledge of boilers, HVAC systems, and performs safety inspections. Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and reports findings. Keeps fuel records and orders fuel as needed. Requisitions equipment, tools, parts, and supplies. Assists in evaluating employee performance and enforces policies. Inspects safety, sanitation, and security standards; maintains firefighting equipment. Submits accident reports and performs security checks. Coordinates and supervises custodial staff and supports after-school activities. Performs building and campus cleaning activities. Maintains pesticide logs and assists with pest management. Responds to emergencies, including weather events and repairs. Coordinates snow removal for quick reopening. Performs other related duties as assigned. SALARY This is a full-time, twelve-month position. The salary range is based on Grade 10 of the FY 2024-2025 AFSCME Salary Schedule, starting at $57,623 with a maximum of $80,995. New or returning employees begin at Step 1. At least three years of experience in custodial or related trades, with two years supervisory experience as a Chief Custodian or equivalent. Fourth Grade Stationary Engineer’s License issued by the Maryland State Board of Stationary Engineers. Must attend pesticide application training and maintain certification. Ability to read requisitions, labels, and manage supplies and equipment. Valid driver’s license may be required. Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting and climbing. Job DescriptionJob Description Plans, coordinates, and conducts efforts necessary to perform a variety of tasks associated with testing power systems, to include operating and maintaining equipment. Devises approaches to accomplish work, resolve operational problems, and make decisions in situations where standard methods, procedures, and techniques may not be applicable. Duties and Responsibilities * Works with engineers/testing personnel to set up tests that properly adhere to correct test operating procedures and military standards. * Applies conventional engineering practices to analyze schematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings and parts lists. Examples of designs include detailed circuit diagrams, hardware fittings or test equipment. * Conducts specific test or experimental procedures requiring selection and adaptation or modification of a wide variety of electrical power and distribution test procedures; sets up and operates equipment; records data. * Operates and transfers information from the data acquisition equipment in support of reliability and performance testing of electrical power and distribution equipment. * Coordinates efforts necessary to ensure testing is accomplished in accordance with appropriate/approved test plans, manuals, policies, and regulations to achieve test objectives. * Installs and operates sensitive data collection instrumentation, mobile power system devices, and maintains equipment necessary to collect, process, store or obtain test related data in accordance with appropriate test plans, manuals, policies, and regulations. * Performs one or a combination of typical duties, such as proper power up/shut down of load bank operational procedures, set up of voltage and frequency configurations and fault resets, calculations of percentage loads at 25/50/75/100%, connecting 3 phase and single-phase power, and set up and conduct testing for 120/208 V and 416 V voltage ratings. * Establishes circuit interrupter, maximum power, fuel consumption, and other specialized tests and processes the data in accordance with well-defined methods and designated formulas. * Analyzes and presents various test data in accordance with established methods. * Effectively operates power system computers, software, and other related technology. * Identifies, documents, and communicates test related and/or abnormal conditions in an appropriate format and timely manner. * Develops or reviews designs of test fixtures and/or components using sound technical principles. * Troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions. * Prepares all or portions of Job Hazard Analyses, Risk Assessments, Detailed Test Plans, and Final Reports for testing. Qualifications Required Skills and Qualifications * Must have 3 yr. of applicable experience or at least 60 credit hours or an Associate’s Degree and 1 yr. of applicable experience; or 30 credit hours and 2 yrs. of applicable experience; or completion of a formal training program and 1 yr. of applicable experience. * Shall possess basic computer skills. * 80% of all levels combined shall possess a license to operate forklift(s) and other required support equipment. * 50% of all levels combined shall possess Overhead Bridge Crane operator license. * Shall possess Crane Car Operator license. * 10% of all levels combined shall possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). * 50% of all levels combined shall be Respiratory Protection qualified, to include medical screening, fit checks, and Respiratory Protection Training, as dictated by Mission requirements.
