Registered NurseThe registered nurse position at the Battle Born Youth Challenge Academy, under the Office of the Military, Nevada National Guard, provides professional nursing care in accordance with the Nevada Nurse Practice Act within a 24/7 voluntary residential program serving youth ages 1618 in a structured, quasi-military environment. The nurse coordinates health services and treatment, collaborates with academy staff to ensure optimal care, and performs procedures that support both the physical and emotional well-being of cadets. This role involves assessing and identifying healthcare needs through professional nursing judgment, conducting comprehensive clinical observations, recognizing subtle changes in condition, and accurately documenting and reporting physical and mental health indicators. The position also includes supervisory responsibilities, such as overseeing technical staff, conducting performance evaluations, managing scheduling and work assignments, providing training and discipline, and supervising additional administrative, paraprofessional, or professional staff as assigned.Current license to practice as a registered nurse and one year of professional nursing experience.General knowledge of current nursing practices, principles, methods, and procedures; application of the nursing process including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation; universal precautions and infection control techniques and procedures; medical terminology sufficient to understand doctor's orders; documentation process; uses and effects of medications used in nursing; operation and use of medical equipment in the practice setting; nutrition and personal hygiene as applied to patient care; human growth and development; routine laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures; state personnel rules and regulations.Ability to interview patients to elicit a health history, symptoms and/or complaints; clinically assess the basic health status of a patient; develop, implement, and evaluate a nursing care plan; prepare and maintain medical records, charts, and reports; follow detailed oral and written instructions; provide health education to individuals and families; provide emergency medical treatment as required; communicate both in writing and verbally with appropriate staff and parents or guardians; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors, staff, cadets, and families; delegate appropriate assignments to subordinate staff; recruit, train and supervise technical and support staff.The state of Nevada is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to building diverse, inclusive, and innovative work environments with employees who reflect our communities and enthusiastically serve them.
