Position Information TxDOT's San Angelo District is looking for a Transportation Maintenance Crew Chief In the Ozona Maintenance Office. This maintenance office has a workforce of 14 full time employees and covers over 863 lane miles of Interstate, US and State highways, and farm to market roads across Crockett County. This is an entry-level leadership position in the maintenance section and will help coordinate equipment, materials, and personnel for roadway maintenance projects and work closely with the maintenance section supervisor and assistant. Reports to a maintenance section supervisor and assists in administration of the maintenance section. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Essential Duties: Assists during accident and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs, and organize response of crews. Assists in administration of the maintenance section. Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments. Inspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors. Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheets. Monitors materials testing and inventory of roadway maintenance materials. Operates light and heavy equipment. Oversees the work of designated maintenance inspectors and sign technicians. Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment. Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members' career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage. Minimum Qualifications: Education : High School Grad or Equivalent in general education. Experience : 5 years experience in roadway maintenance related work. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Licenses and Certification s: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at time of application. Must have or have obtained 'N' (tanker) endorsement and remove any transmission restriction within 60 calendar days from date of employment.
