Unit Overview: Join our 24-bed Neurosurgical Unit , where you'll care for a diverse and complex patient population, including: Post-operative craniotomies for bleed evacuation, AVMs, and tumor resections Cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine surgeries Hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke patients as part of our Comprehensive Stroke Program High volume of cervical and spinal surgery patients, along with medical overflow cases As part of the Aurora Neuroscience Innovation Institute (ANII) , our unit offers exposure to the latest neurosurgical techniques and cutting-edge care. What You'll Do: Deliver and coordinate comprehensive, evidence-based patient care using the nursing process. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, therapeutic, and compassionate care. Apply clinical judgment, skilled communication, and critical thinking to support optimal outcomes. Major Responsibilities: Utilize the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate care effectiveness. Recognize significant changes in patient conditions and adapt care plans as needed. Implement strategies to reduce patient risk and enhance safety. Coordinate the discharge plan using an interdisciplinary approach. Evaluate outcomes and participate in activities to improve processes. Maintain effective communication and collaboration with team members. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required: Registered Nurse license from the state of practice Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association Education Required: Completion of an accredited Nursing program. Experience Required: Typically requires 1 year of clinical nursing experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Ability to provide holistic patient care with a focus on patient and family needs. Recognize situational changes requiring intervention and respond confidently. Proficiency in computer skills and electronic medical records. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Critical decision-making and organization skills. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Able to sit, stand, walk, and lift as necessary throughout the workday. Must be able to perform tasks involving lifting and carrying various weights. Exposure to chemicals, hazardous waste, and bodily fluids may be required; protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
