Responsibilities A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in the rehabilitation and care of patients with various physical, mental, or emotional conditions. The main goal of a COTA is to assist individuals in developing, recovering, improving, and maintaining skills needed for daily living and working. Key responsibilities include: Patient Care Execution: Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, execute therapeutic plans, teach patients to use adaptive equipment, guide exercises, and engage patients in activities vital to their recovery. Activity and Program Planning: Contribute to planning and selecting therapeutic activities tailored to each patient's needs and interests, aligning with therapeutic goals. Progress Monitoring: Regularly observe, document, and report patient progress, adjusting interventions as necessary to ensure continuous improvement. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families about therapy processes, adaptive equipment, and home modifications to support ongoing recovery and independence.
