By joining our District 12 Project Development Branch, Design Section in Pike County as a Transportation Engineering Supervisor you will have the opportunity, with the written approval of the State Highway Engineer, to supervise professional and sub-professional personnel in the administration of transportation engineering programs. You will oversee the activities of professional and technical personnel in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of highways, structures, or facilities. You will also review and approve engineering documents as a Licensed Professional Engineer; and perform other duties as required. Responsibilities Holders of the Transportation Engineering Supervisor position will complete tasks such as: Plans, assigns, and supervises work on the design section’s staff in order to meet the objectives of the project development program. Reviews and analyzes data to plan and design or coordinate the planning and design of transportation facilities in accordance with departmental and federal policies, procedures and standards. Provides guidance, support, and feedback to KYTC design staff regarding the development of highway design projects. Learns and applies software capabilities to the analysis, design, and development of highway projects, including Bentley Microstation and OpenRoads Design Software. Collaborates with Project Development staff and other KYTC employees. Assists with estimates, studies, plans, and maps as requested. Works with consulting engineering firms in the development of preliminary and final designs, assisting with contract establishment, providing input on alternate development, and helping to ensure projects are developed on time and within budget. Works with the district survey crew to coordinate field collection of highway project data, including all survey needs within the district. Holders of this job title will obtain teamwork skills through collaborative work. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer. Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: See Special Requirements. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a professional engineer. Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites which require the following of safety procedures. Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
