Career Opportunities with Manhattan University Department: Center for Career Development Position Summary: The Center for Career Development (CCD) assists students in identifying, clarifying, and achieving their career goals. We also work closely with employers to cultivate a variety of professional opportunities for all graduates. We are looking for a Career Counselor to collaborate closely with the Manhattan University student body and work alongside the Center for Career Development (CCD) team to enhance students' career readiness. Responsibilities:
Provide individual and group career counseling for students at Manhattan University Administer, analyze and interpret one or more career assessments (MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory) and provide online resources for undecided students to explore various majors and career opportunities Develop strong relationships with the Deans Provide consultation and organization assistance to departments in their development of major specific career related events Communicate and encourage faculty to maintain equitable opportunities for students by posting jobs and internships on Handshake Conduct outreach efforts including workshops and presentations to classes, student clubs and faculty Collaborate with the office’s recruiting team to target employers and build recruitment opportunities to increase quality and quantity of internship and employment opportunities Regularly update and maintain online industry resources on majors and careers, domestic and international internships, full-time employment, and experiential learning opportunities in the fields of engineering, education, and healthcare (among other fields) on CCD’s websites Integrate technology into daily operations, programs and presentations
Additional Responsibilities:
Help collect Graduating Student Survey data; provide information on walk-ins, counseling, workshop, presentation, internship, mentor program data each semester Support center-wide programs and services including co-sponsored programs with other departments including career fairs, workshops and Peer Career Advisor training Take an active role in social media efforts and strategy to enhance the office’s image both internally and externally
Qualifications:
1-3 years’ experience in counseling, advising, administration or related field, preferably in higher education Familiarity with career development theories and practices, assessments (MBTI/SII), counseling and services Understanding of and appreciation for Manhattan’s Catholic Lasallian mission and heritage Must be flexible, collaborative, self-directed and outcome oriented with strong sense of customer service Must have strong written and oral presentation skills and have been successful in working both independently and in cross-functional teams Technical Skills: Social Media: Advanced working knowledge in LinkedIn and Instagram MS Office Suite: Advanced in MS Word and PowerPoint and proficient in Excel Ability to master Internet-based recruiting programs and learn new technologies required Familiarity with Canva helpful
