The Pension and Endowments Department (PEN) is responsible for the financial management and administration of the World Bank Group's funded benefit plans, managing about $40 billion US dollars invested across a range of asset classes. PEN identifies, selects, evaluates, and monitors investments through outside managers globally. The Pension Middle Office team (PENMO) under PEN is responsible for providing a full range of functions supporting these investment activities, including pension plan operational activities, financial statements, performance and attribution, and Operational Due Diligence (ODD). The ODD and Investment Compliance Financial Officer will work within a collaborative team structure to ensure accuracy and timely delivery of operational due diligence reports. The candidate will perform ongoing monitoring of investments, including analyzing private equity fund audited financial statements and other publicly available information. Duties and Responsibilities:
Evaluating the overall quality of the investment managers’ organization, accounting, valuation, reporting, audit, regulatory compliance, as well as both operational and IT infrastructure. Identifying operational (non-investment) risk factors and providing suggestions to mitigate those factors. Synthesize results in comprehensive written reports, highlighting key risks to clients. Participate in follow-up meetings with senior management of investment managers. Presentation of the results to the investment committee explaining findings of ODD reviews. Establish and maintain working relationships with members of the external investment community. Advise on appropriate operational matters for hedge funds and alternative investment funds.
Selection Criteria:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with at least 5 years’ experience in operational due diligence or middle office operations. Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative analytical skills. Working knowledge of investment manager operations, investment concepts, and regulatory compliance. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively. Detail-oriented and high degree of intellectual curiosity. High level of initiative and self-confidence. Commitment to work in a respectful, team-oriented, and multi-cultural environment. Willingness to travel for training and team projects, if required. Highest ethical standards.
