MOVEABLE BRIDGE OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR (OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR II) Agency: Department of Transportation Position Title: OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR II - PW752 Closing Date/Time: 10/30/2024 Salary: Anticipated Starting Salary $8,750 a month; Full Range: $8,750 - $9,100 a month Job Type: Salaried Category: Full Time County: Will Number of Vacancies: 1 Plan/BU: Non-Union Position Overview This position is accountable for the direct supervision of staff ensuring effective and continuous operation of the district's moveable bridges through effective utilization of operating personnel. The implementation of effective bridge inspection and preventative maintenance programs and supervision and inspection of bridge maintenance and rehabilitation projects are required on all movable bridges. Essential Functions
Optimizes the limited available resources to operate and maintain the district’s moveable bridges to ensure that they are always operated in a safe and continuous manner. Provides direct employee supervision through the assignment and review of work; approval of time off. Recommends discipline; prepares and signs performance evaluations; and establishes staffing needs, work hours, and overtime authorization. Participates in disciplinary and grievance resolution proceedings in conjunction with Labor Relations. Assists the Labor Relations staff in preparing for work rule negotiations and serves as needed on the Central Work Rule Clarification committee. Assists Labor Relations in negotiations of collective bargaining agreements. Ensures complete and accurate inspection evaluating and reporting of bridge conditions in accordance with federal regulations and guidelines. Evaluates and recommends corrective action to alleviate bridge maintenance problems. Ensures effective preventative maintenance of moveable bridges. Projects short term and long-range bridge maintenance records. Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or a related technical/science curriculum PLUS six years of experience in civil engineering, roadway or bridge construction, highway maintenance, traffic operations, public works, or a related field; OR Eight years of experience in engineering technology, civil engineering, roadway or bridge construction, highway maintenance, traffic operations, public works, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supervising a unionized workforce. Ability to plan and direct execution of work for efficient accomplishment of program objectives. Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with employees, agency officials and the public. Working knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in moveable bridges. Strong oral and written communication skills.
Conditions of Employment
Valid driver's license. 24-hours a day availability. Extensive periods of overtime. Successful completion of a background screening.
