Telecommunication Operations Manager
Job Description
An employee in this class manages the daily operations of a public safety department. Work includes serving in the absence of the Emergency Communications Director, exercising independent judgement and initiative. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director. Manages, plans, and assigns work operations for staff who receive and dispatch twenty-four hour emergency communications for multiple agencies including law enforcement, EMS, rescue and fire services. Develops work schedules and adjusts schedules as needed for unplanned absences. Manages staff to address concerns, report on performance, coach, and invite feedback. Responsible for documentation of work performance, counseling, and disciplinary actions. Monitors staff certification terms and takes measures to prevent certification expiration. Participates in the recruitment and hiring process to include interviewing applicants, preparing documentation, and making recommendations for hire to the Director. Implements and monitors departmental policies and procedures and recommends revision and new policies and procedures to the Director. Manages the Training Academy and coordinates staff training for Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD), Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD), CPR DCI, and coordinates other staff training needs. Creates training curriculum for new hires. Performs quality assurance on EMD, EFD and EPD procedures. Serves as Assistant Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) for the department. Graduation from high school supplemented by courses in technology, business management, or related fields and experience in work with technology, telephone equipment, radio communications; or related fields including supervisory training and emergency telecommunications supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must obtain the following certifications within six (6) months of hire and maintain the certifications: IAED Emergency Telecommunicator Certification, or equivalent CPR Certification APCO Communications Training Officer (CTO) Certification Division of Criminal Information Network (DCIN) Certifications IAED EMD, EFD, and EPD Certifications ED-Q Certifications Criminal records check, drug screen, references and transcripts will be required for the successful candidate.
