The Nuclear Medicine/PET Imaging Technologist performs nuclear medicine In vivo and In vitro procedures using sophisticated radiation-detecting instrumentation (including SPECT and PET), accomplishes computer processing and image enhancement, and provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic and therapeutic interpretation, under the direction of the Nuclear Medicine Radiologists, Nuclear Medicine/PET Imaging Manager/Supervisor, and Imaging Services Leadership. Duties and Responsibilities Imaging Technologist Duties 80% of the time Produces high quality Nuclear Medicine/PET exams utilizing imaging skills for modalities as assigned. Performs Imaging Time Out to ensure correct patient, exam, protocol and laterality are performed. Follows and maintains a thorough understanding of protocols, demonstrating competence in the acquisition and processing of all In vivo amp; In vitro imaging procedures and generating reliable, reproducible results. Safely operates nuclear instrumentation, including Single Photon Emission Computerized Tomography (SPECT) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and/or PET with Computerized Tomography (PET/CT). This is accomplished through training specific to CT, which includes radiation safety for ionizing radiation equipment. Maintains skills in performing duties necessary to complete Nuclear Medicine/PET imaging autonomously, such as inserting intravenous lines, drawing blood, positions ECG leads, taking blood pressures, recognizes and monitors tracing patterns as outlined during orientation and annual competency education. Handles amp; prepares and administers intravenous and/or interventional radiopharmaceuticals consistent with department policy and practice, measuring syringe samples for total activity amp; contaminations checks. Prepares prescribed doses of radiopharmaceuticals and interventional pharmacologics by calculating amount amp; volume of activity according to patient age and/or weight. Administers radiopharmaceuticals and/or interventional pharmacologics intravenously, orally, amp; by inhalation. Obtains a relevant history and assesses the patients physical, psychosocial and educational needs from accompany documents and by interview before each test, and sees that the patient has an adequate understanding of the procedure. Maintains required documentation on patient dose administrations, archive on PACS for easy reference and retrieval. Maintains a radioactively safe environment compliant to the Ohio Department of Health. Uses excellent handling practices with all radioactive materials, including dose administration, waste disposal and area monitoring. Utilizes ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable) dose techniques to produce high quality images. Provides general care to patients so that basic medical amp; comfort needs are satisfied; reacts in emergencies to initiate immediate amp; appropriate treatment. Participates in department call rotations to ensure emergency coverage is maintained. Properly assesses and screens patients for appropriate clinical information and appropriateness for exam indication; provides information to patient/family regarding imaging procedures. Has the authority to accept verbal orders from Licensed Practitioners for imaging procedures, following hospital policy. Completes necessary documentation amp; record keeping in EMR and PACs, on images, consultation/screening forms, maintaining patient confidentiality, and performs other clerical functions as assigned. Demonstrates universal precautions for infection control practices under the guidelines of OSUWMC Performs lab functions needed for contrast medication administration and maintains lab competency under the lab guidelines. Accesses patient information and lab values in the Hospital information systems while maintaining HIPPA and medical center appropriate access policies. Maintains inventory of supplies and stocks areas with appropriate supplies. Job Summary: The Diagnostic Imaging Specialist II will serve as a key member of the Department of Ophthalmology patient care team. In this role, the incumbent will perform all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving of ophthalmic images and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in the imaging area. Job Responsibilities:

Perform diagnostic imaging studies and examinations: Review imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Position patient and select appropriate options to ensure best-case imaging. Operate cameras, scanners, and other imaging equipment to perform various imaging techniques. Observe patient while in the imaging area for change in status and make appropriate intervention. Systematically and accurately enter patient data into imaging systems and transfer images to the PACS. Judge diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to ophthalmologist for interpretation.

Operate and maintain equipment on a daily basis, maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data. Processing, sterilizing, and organizing instruments daily. Performing clerical responsibilities associated with the acquisition, processing, and archiving of patient records. Offering detailed explanations of pre- and post-visit processes and diagnostic procedures to patients. Assist with onboarding and training of new staff. Serve as the first point of escalation for complex cases or scheduling issues. Assist supervisor/manager with special projects. Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

High school graduate and a minimum of 2 years’ ophthalmology experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience; B.S. in Biomedical Photography preferred. Ability to independently perform a range of ophthalmic imaging techniques. Certification and imaging experience for clinical research studies required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong service orientation. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
