Job Summary: The Diagnostic Imaging Specialist II will serve as a key member of the Department of Ophthalmology patient care team. In this role, the incumbent will perform all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving of ophthalmic images and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in the imaging area. Successful candidates will have at least 2 years’ experience in an ophthalmology imaging setting with an ability to independently perform fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, corneal mapping, specular biomicroscopy, and flatbed scanning, while demonstrating a strong service orientation and an ability to learn new technical skills. Job Responsibilities:
Perform diagnostic imaging studies and examinations: Review imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Position patient and select appropriate options to ensure best-case imaging. Operate cameras, scanners, and other imaging equipment to perform various imaging techniques. Observe patient while in the imaging area for change in status and make appropriate intervention. Systematically and accurately enter patient data into imaging systems and transfer images to the PACS. Judge diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to ophthalmologist for interpretation.
Operate and maintain equipment on a daily basis, maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data. Processing, sterilizing, and organizing instruments daily. Performing clerical responsibilities associated with the acquisition, processing, and archiving of patient records. Offering detailed explanations of pre- and post-visit processes and diagnostic procedures to patients. Assist with onboarding and training of new staff. Serve as the first point of escalation for complex cases or scheduling issues. Assist supervisor/manager with special projects. Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
High school graduate and a minimum of 2 years’ ophthalmology experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience; B.S. in Biomedical Photography preferred. Ability to independently perform a range of ophthalmic imaging techniques. Certification and imaging experience for clinical research studies required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong service orientation. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in computer skills including Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Office, etc. Will provide coverage as requested throughout practices. OTC-C certification preferred. CPR certified preferred. Multi-specialty experience in a high-volume setting preferred. Prior EMR experience, Epic preferred.
