JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: This is an Instrument/Electrical (I/E) technician position where the incumbent will perform basic and mid-level I/E craft tasks while receiving formal training and mentoring within the I/E organization. The incumbent may coach and/or mentor employees at the entry-level or trainee level of the I/E craft. Familiarity with safety requirements of the I/E crafts is essential to aid or lead in the installation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and adjustment of electrical equipment, instrumentation, and analytical equipment within an industrial/manufacturing plant environment. Principal Responsibilities:
Understand and apply all Industrial Safety requirements for the Instrument and Electrical crafts in the assigned plants or shops, including ISO and Responsible Care (RC). Use common tools of the Instrument/Electrical crafts, including hand tools, power tools, and electrical/electronic test equipment. Solid understanding of gaskets, packing, bolts, anchors, hoses, metallurgy, and field mounting techniques associated with electrical and instrumentation equipment. Knowledge of electrical lighting, instrumentation, and electrical maintenance/installation principles. Ability to work on Instrumentation Calibration, Pneumatic Control Valves, Loop Checks, Troubleshooting, and Commissioning. Perform installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment, instrumentation, and analytical equipment. Apply and mentor others on principles of Electrical Theory, E/I Test Equipment, Process Math, and Conductors. Demonstrate knowledge of equipment including Pumps, Drives, and Valves. Read, interpret, and implement electrical codes, manuals, procedures, and schematic diagrams. Aid senior technicians or engineers in Programmable Logic Controllers and Distributed Control Systems. Install power supply and signal wiring/cables, cable tray, and conduit for new machines. Replace faulty components of machines and instrumentation under the direction of senior technicians. Perform routine housekeeping to keep work area clean and safe. Capable of coordinating training in electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting, repair, and installation skills. Complete the Evonik Corporation progression system for Instrument/Electrical courses required for promotion. Participate in vendor or technical training. Learn maintenance best practice principles. Learn SAP R11 Computer Maintenance Management System for Work Orders and Procurement of Materials. Document all repair activities and seek continuous improvement opportunities. Communicate effectively with the Maintenance Department, Contractors, and Area Engineers. Promote a culture for safe and effective work. Willingness to learn and grow skills. Perform skilled instrument trade functions including SIS testing and calibration. Document work in SAP CMMS. Attend training sessions – safety, technical & development. Train and mentor others on precision maintenance principles.
Essential Functions Physical Demands:
Heavy work: Exerting up to 60 pounds of force occasionally. Physical mobility and agility required, including climbing ladders and working in confined spaces. May require working in a rotating shift environment including weekends. Sensory faculties needed to react to immediate hazardous conditions. Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Environmental Work Conditions:
Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, and physical hazards. Must wear respiratory protection in certain conditions. Exposure to oils and cutting fluids.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Diploma/Nitec in Electrical/Electronic; minimum 5 years’ experience in maintenance journeyman in relevant industry. Demonstrated proficiency level experience and skill for the I/E craft. Sound knowledge in E&I and Process Controls. Motivated and able to work under pressure. Team-oriented and communicative. Familiar with various Temperature, Pressure, and flow instrumentation. Program and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives. Knowledge of Delta V and RS3 is a plus. Computer skills, including standard software and SAP. Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision. Participate in overtime activities as needed.
