Job Title: Lecturer Department: Arts and Sciences | Design Course: Design 5505 – Information Design Course Description: This course explores the relationship between visual design and the field of information visualization. It presents design strategies of how information can be structured and visualized to create effective communications and to stimulate viewer attention and engagement. Students will practice information design by exploring the implications of cognitive principles, communication theories, design thinking and aesthetic principles, semiotic systems in order to develop skills to analyze and design effective information visualization and communication. Responsibilities:
Teaching: Delivering engaging and informative lectures to students enrolled in Information Design. Office Hours: Providing regular office hours to offer academic support, guidance, and clarification to students. Grading: Assessing and grading assignments, projects, and examinations in a timely manner. Grade Submission: Submitting final grades in accordance with university policies and deadlines. Curriculum Development: Participating in the development and enhancement of curriculum content, ensuring alignment with industry standards and emerging trends. Course Coordination: Collaborating with other faculty members to ensure a cohesive and integrated learning experience for students. Student Interaction: Engaging with students to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, addressing inquiries and concerns. Professional Development: Staying informed about advancements in visual communications design and information design through continuous learning and professional development.
Performance Objectives:
Planning and organizing instruction in ways which maximize student learning. Meeting scheduled classes and office hours in accordance with university policy. Ensuring curriculum implementation and course preparation in accordance with department standards. Preparing homework and exams, evaluating, and returning student work in a timely manner to promote learning. Maintaining accurate records of students’ progress and submitting final grade roster in accordance with established university deadlines. Maintaining confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA.
Education and Experience Requirements: Master's degree or higher in Visual Communications Design, Graphic Design, or a related field. Demonstrated expertise in current and emerging information design within the context of Visual Communication Design. Prior teaching experience, preferably at the university level. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive educational environment.
