Applications will be accepted beginning Monday, December 9, 2024 12:00 AM (Pacific Standard Time) Job Description The Hermiston School District is seeking a qualified, personable, and dedicated candidate to fill the position of Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Instructor . Full-time, school year position, begins August 2024.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Noncommissioned Officers who have separated/retired within the past 5 years with a minimum of 10 years cumulative honorable service in the grades of E-6 through E-9. Officers who have separated/retired within the past 5 years with a minimum of 10 years cumulative honorable service in the grades of W-1 through W-5 or O-3 through O-6. ARNG and USAR (Actively Serving/TPU)- will fall under the same requirements mentioned above. In addition, Letter of Recommendation from current Commander and current DA Form 5016 or NGB 23A, is required. Valid Oregon license with appropriate subject endorsement and authorization level (if applicable). Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructs Cadets in the JROTC curriculum during the school year. Develops short and long range plans for achieving curriculum goals, gathers appropriate materials, establishes clear objectives for lessons, and formulates appropriate lesson plans. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and the personal growth of students. Evaluates student progress and counsels cadets on their performance within the JROTC program. Motivates and encourages students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a foundation for becoming a responsible citizen. Monitors student movement to ensure a safe and orderly environment. Maintains a robust community service program for JROTC students and organizes, supervises, and participates in extracurricular activities for JROTC cadets including color guard, drill teams and other special activities. Maintains JROTC student records as required by the Department of Army regulations and local policies. Complies with Army and Hermiston School District safety guidelines when instructing and supervising. Maintains supply accountability in compliance with Army security regulations. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Attends staff development programs, department meetings and other professional activities. Sets an example and models positive attitudes, knowledge, and skills for cadets. Maintains a working knowledge of new instructional methods, technology, and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned by a supervisor.
Salary and Benefits: The Hermiston School District offers an extremely competitive salary and benefits package which includes PERS retirement employer-paid pick-up, tuition reimbursement, and a comprehensive health and benefits package. A full year contract (August-June) consists of 193 days, which includes 3 paid holidays. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure his/her application is complete.
