Job Description
Ohio State is looking for a Training Coordinator to support departmental training efforts, Sport & Wellness Scholars, and support our Graduate Assistants with professional development. We are looking for someone that is excited about training and creating development plans for students and Graduate Assistants! Applications will be accepted through 2/16/25.
Function Statement/Summary of Duties: The Training Coordinator (Student Staff Training Specialist) coordinates student staff training and development opportunities for Recreational Sports based on department vision and the Office of Student Life initiatives. This role supports the development of specialized student employees such as coaches, instructors, officials, supervisors, and trip-leaders. Conducts evaluation, assessment, and relevant research. Ensures alignment with and implementation of the Student Life Student Employment Experience (SEE); manages attendance reports for training events; develops communications and announcements; facilitates training sessions with created or provided curriculum; assists in planning and coordination of professional staff meetings; assists in coordinating Rec Sports Graduate Assistant (GTA) recruitment and experience process; oversees a GA for leadership and student development; partners with Student Life Human Resources Learning and Development Specialist. Responsibilities:
50% - Provides support for department student staff training programs and oversight of 12 student GTA cohort; including hiring, onboarding, and training; ensures ongoing professional development meets area needs and aligns with departmental initiatives. 20% - Provides support for department professional staff training; including tracking annual training requirements, facilitating regular touchpoints with student supervisors, and assisting with staff meetings; provides oversight of software systems used to manage staffing and operations (Sub It Up and Connect 2). 20% - Assists supervisor with day-to-day oversight of the Dunn Scholars living learning community. 10% - Serves as department liaison for Rec Sports with Student Life central services including HR, Grad Pad, and SEE.
Qualifications Required: A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 2 years of relevant experience required (Graduate Assistant time can count towards years of experience). Desired: Master's degree in Higher Education, Communications or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in a collegiate recreation setting; practices of student development within higher education; experience in coaching student staff and graduate assistants; experience organizing retreats and/or workshops for large groups; must possess strong organization and communication (written and verbal) skills; comfortable presenting to large groups; working knowledge of leadership and development theories.
