Road Maintenance Worker II Is the entry-level class of this road maintenance worker series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents operate light equipment on routine assignment. As experience is gained, duties will include the operation of heavy construction equipment. Incumbents will advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency, which meet the qualifications for the higher-level class. Road Maintenance Worker III Is the experienced level in this series, incumbent has demonstrated ability to operate heavy construction equipment. Job Responsibilities:
Road Maintenance Worker II - include but are not limited to: Operates light duty snowplow for snow removal, transports and operates striping equipment. Operates light equipment on routine assignments including but not limited to asphalt rollers and sweepers, mower, and concrete/asphalt saws. Fabricates and prepares cement forms, cut, breaks, and removes broken or damaged sidewalks, curbs, and gutters. May perform in the capacity of sign maker as directed. Drives a variety of light duty pickups. Performs emergency storm/disaster work. Performs other related duties as required or assigned. Road Maintenance Worker III - Include but are not limited to: Sets grade for road building, sweeps streets, installs signs. Performs skilled work on various public works such as cut and fill of earth works, grading of roads, repair and construction of street medians, storm drains, driveways, walls, and planters. Operates class A heavy construction equipment on routine assignments including but not limited to asphalt rollers, blade, dozers, backhoes, cranes, loaders, asphalt zippers, trains, bottom dumps, paddlewheel scraper, striper, distributor truck, chip spreader and motor graders. Prepares job site and ensures safety precautions are observed by ensuring signs and work zones are designated. Daily determines the need for additional materials, supplies and tools necessary to perform the job. Performs emergency storm/disaster work. Performs other related duties as required or assigned. Qualifications Job Requirements:
Road Maintenance Worker II - Three years experience performing duties comparable to those of a Road Maintenance Worker in Nye County; Knowledge of operation of power equipment related to assigned job; Knowledge of methods, techniques and safety practices used in maintaining streets, catch basins, sidewalks, curbs and gutters; Skill in performing semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, gutters and related public works facilities; Skill in working independently in the absence of supervision; Skill in performing heavy manual labor for extended periods occasionally under severe weather conditions; Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; Ability to work well with others. Road Maintenance Worker III - Three years experience performing duties comparable to those of a Road Maintenance Worker II in Nye County; Knowledge of operation of power equipment related to assigned job; Knowledge of methods, techniques and safety practices used in maintaining streets, catch basins, sidewalks, curbs and gutters; Skill in performing semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, gutters and related public works facilities; Skill in working independently in the absence of supervision; Skill in performing heavy manual labor for extended periods occasionally under severe weather conditions; Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; Ability to work well with others. Licenses:
Road Maintenance Worker II – Preferred or the ability to obtain a Class B valid Nevada driver’s license with required endorsements to operate assigned equipment and Flagger certification. Road Maintenance Worker III – Preferred or the ability to obtain a valid State of Nevada Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with required endorsements for doubles / triple trailers, hazardous and Flagger certification.
