Maintenance Technician
Job Description
The Maintenance Technician will work independently and with other hatchery or breeder personnel to perform preventative, predictive, and routine maintenance tasks. This individual will troubleshoot issues, repair failures of production and facilities’ equipment, and ensure maximum equipment efficiency and effectiveness. All tasks will be performed while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company. This position will report to a senior maintenance technician. Responsibilities Repair and maintain machinery and equipment such as incubators, conveyors, compressors, air conditioning systems, and pumps. Repair or replace control devices such as switches, photo eyes, proximity sensors, push buttons, contactors, motors, motor starters, etc. Perform work order repairs, inspections, and adjustments. Able to set up and operate welders, drill press, grinder, hand tools, and other metalworking equipment. Fabrication and modification of new and existing equipment. Participate in plant safety, health, and environmental programs as well as animal welfare training. Minimum Qualifications At least 5 years’ experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanics, and electrical repair. Ability to read and interpret documents and shop drawings. Ability to write detailed repair reports as well as good verbal communication. Post-secondary education and/or a technical trade certificate is an asset. Experience in computer repair/technology is an asset. North Carolina State and Federal laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to the functions of a turkey hatchery. Worker health and safety enforcement including the use of chemicals. Additional Qualifications Prioritize, plan, and organize work. Exercise independent judgment. Explain and apply policies, processes, and procedures. Establish and maintain working relationships with departmental heads, clerical administration, and representatives of other divisions and departments. Maintain confidentiality of all information. Participate and enforce the company safety program. Must have a valid NC Driver’s License. Must be willing to respond to off-hour shift emergencies and on a rotating weekend call list.
