About the role: As the Senior Marketing Manager, you’ll step into a role which goes beyond conventional marketing. You’re not just a senior manager; you’re an architect of creating transformative commuter experiences. Your role is to understand consumer behaviours and insight, to drive relevant marketing programs. With the primary focus to increase commuter demand, boost brand metrics and manage in product development and strategy. This role isn’t just about managing campaigns, you’ll be at the forefront of innovation trying out the latest tools to engage customers and keep them coming back. Your job is to make sure our marketing efforts drive revenue, are efficient and align with Northern's business goals. Leading cross-functional teams, and collaborating across various departments, you’ll play a key role in shaping the commuter experience in a practical and impactful manner. Your focus is on strategic initiatives that resonate with our audience, ensuring Northern's standing in the ever-evolving landscape of commuter services. Here’s a glimpse of what your day-to-day in role can look like:
Supporting Head of Sales & Marketing : Assist in the end-to-end development of propositions, ensuring seamless execution for acquiring and retaining commuter markets. Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams : Work closely with the Customer Experience Design Manager, Business Development & Partnership Team, and Marketing Operations Team to deliver initiatives, campaigns, and product enhancements. Act as the gatekeeper for ensuring cohesion across the entire journey and campaign assets. Marketing Campaign Management : Collaborate with the Marketing Campaign Team to deliver assets across all channels. Define user journeys, campaign processes, and oversee the production of diverse assets, including emails, digital content, e-brochures, and more. Lead Generation Campaigns : Work with the Business Development & Partnership Team to define and plan lead generation marketing campaigns targeting medium and large-sized businesses across the North, aimed at driving inbound and outbound leads. Positioning and Messaging : Develop positioning and messaging frameworks. Collaborate with agency copywriters to produce copy documents and assets. Market Evaluation and Reporting : Produce regular reports on market and competitor activity. Stay updated on marketing trends and collaborate with the Commercial Development and CX Insights team to understand the audience and shape the value proposition and associated messaging. Internal Promotion Communications : Produce and maintain internal promotion communications in accordance with the sign-off process. Media, Creative & Campaign Planning : Work collaboratively with agencies, the internal CRM Marketing Manager, and the Digital Marketing Manager. Coordinate with the Leisure Product Marketing Manager on campaign planning.
Additional Responsibilities:
Engage in industry forums and communities, such as Rail Delivery Group working groups for commuter demand. Provide local marketing support for West & Central regions (Northeast and East covered by Leisure Product Marketing Manager). Offer marketing support for various central departments, including Safety, Engineering, Property, Revenue Protection, Train Presentation, Control, People, and Comms.
About you: As the Senior Marketing Manager, you’ll bring a wealth of experience in a senior marketing position and understanding to inform high-level, data-driven decision making. As a person with the capacity to spearhead multiple initiatives simultaneously, you’ll highlight your dynamic approach in role. With strong interpersonal and people management skills, you’ll demonstrate an ability to promote and push communication and collaboration across various functions and stakeholders of varying seniority. Your awareness of the business and commercial landscape, coupled with a deep understanding of customer-centric thinking, positions you as a strategic asset. We’re also looking for the following: Proven and significant experience in a marketing role at managerial level. Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline. Experience of using data and insights to drive decision making supporting both marketing and wider customer and commercial directive. First-hand management of research (Qual and Quant) projects. First-class copywriting skills – product narrative, strategy papers for sign off, internal comms, briefing agencies and content. Proven management and influencing qualities including taking responsibility and the initiative to correct perceived shortcomings. Good organisation and time management skills, able to demonstrate ability to forward plan. Ability to think logically and clearly under pressure and to complete tasks to a high standard within timeframe and financial limit.
