Job Description: Medical Assistant The Medical Assistant (MA) provides support to providers and delivers comprehensive direct patient care under the supervision of the provider. The MA assists in coordinating practice personnel to ensure consistent standards of practice and competency in patient care, within the scope of practice and in accordance with policies, procedures, standards, protocols, standing orders, and guidelines.
Supervision: Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse Responsibilities and Duties:
Greet patients, escort them to exam rooms, and prepare them for their appointments. Obtain and document all intake information accurately in the medical record, adhering to documentation requirements. Record critical lab values, adverse reactions, and relevant information, promptly reporting to the provider. Assist with procedure setup and cleanup, ensuring patient and provider readiness. Follow universal precautions and aseptic techniques, using medical instruments properly. Educate patients in conjunction with providers. Inventory and restock exam rooms as needed, communicating supply needs. Assist with cleaning and maintenance of exam rooms and clinic areas. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Note: This summary highlights major duties; incumbents may be asked to perform other job-related tasks. Education and Work Experience Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program preferred. Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred. CPR certification required. Experience in administrative and clinical roles in a healthcare setting preferred. Possess broad administrative and technical skills relevant to healthcare. Ability to make decisions based on departmental policies and work independently. Strong documentation and listening skills are essential. Physical Demands and Work Environment Require physical activities including moving within and outside hospital premises for extended periods. Respond quickly to emergency and non-emergency situations. Assist in managing disorderly or combative patients if needed. Exchange accurate information with patients, families, peers, and medical staff. Reasonable accommodations will be provided for individuals with disabilities.
