Outdoor Education Instructor
Job Description
If you enjoy being in the outdoors and spending time with fifth and sixth graders, then look no further! You have found the right spot. Michindoh Outdoor Education School is in session from August to June and serves well over 6,500 elementary students. The students come to the residential camp for a 3-5 day camp experience. Program Instructors are the backbone of the program. They get the opportunity to teach a wide variety of classes such as Reptiles and Amphibians, Aquatic Life, and Mammals, all being hands-on classes. We have not forgotten the Cultural History buffs. How would you like to travel back to the 1840s and portray a settler in our Living History program? A typical day would involve having breakfast with the students, teaching classes, eating lunch with the students, teaching two more hours of class, and then some afternoon activities, which could be Capture the Flag, Handball, Archery, Hayride, Ice Fishing, and many others. Some of the evening programs might include Goldrush, Campfire, Skit Night, Square Dance, or other activities the teachers have picked for their students to participate in during their stay at camp. If you are looking for year-round employment and are interested in building your experience in Christian camping and retreat ministry, leadership roles and employment opportunities are available through the remainder of the summer months in our evangelistic summer camping ministry or in our Christian retreat center services. Learn hospitality ministry at one of Michigan’s largest Christian conference and retreat centers. As a campus of Michigan’s largest Christian University, Spring Arbor University, Michindoh Conference Center is committed to providing our staff the opportunity to gain the experience and education to further their goals for a lifelong career of service to our Lord through Christian camping ministry. Each year Spring Arbor University provides free tuition to multiple Michindoh Conference Center staff for both graduate and undergraduate degrees to equip the staff to better impact our world for Christ. Program instructors receive an hourly wage with paid overtime. Benefits include food, utilities, high-speed internet, free laundry, and paid vacation. Housing is similar to dormitory suite housing, where you would have housemates but your own private room. The community living is what makes Michindoh great. However, with 250 acres of land and a 26-acre lake, there is plenty of space for everyone. Why work at Michindoh Conference Center: Join a team of committed Christians working together to glorify God through a wide variety of ministry tools, including Christian camping, conference facilities, outdoor education, and family retreats.
