Riverton Hospital Pet Therapy Volunteer
Job Description
Job Description: Unpaid volunteer contributing time to Intermountain Healthcare in various roles. Provide comfort to patients and guests by providing visits with pets. Applicants are by invitation only and must be certified by either Pet Partners of Utah or Intermountain Therapy Animals. Certified animal therapy teams provide diversion, motivation, and non-threatening social interactions to patients, families, and hospital staff. Pet teams will be visiting patients in rooms and waiting areas. Volunteers may choose the day and time they would like to volunteer (not all days and times may be available). Qualifications:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Sensitive to patient and family situations/dynamics Customer Service/Hospitality experience Must be at least 18 years old Must have your own pet Pets must have a pet therapy certification Pets must be up to date on all vaccinations Pets must be bathed within 24 hours of visiting the hospital
Requirements: A consecutive 80-hour (6-month) commitment, which entails volunteering one day per week for 3-4 hours; completing a background check, TB test, immunization check; passing a drug screening; must be fully vaccinated, including an annual flu vaccine. Qualified volunteers will receive an e-mail inviting them to a Volunteer Introduction/Orientation Meeting. Attending this meeting is mandatory toward becoming a volunteer.
