NEEDED: Maintenance Worker
LOCATION: COLUMBUS CIVIC CENTER 400 4th St, Columbus, GA 31901
HOURS: As Needed/ Event Driven, 7 days a week, Monday-Sunday, 12:00 AM – 12:00 PM
DRESS CODE: Black or brown shoes and black pants

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Removes dirt and debris from roads. Carries tools, mixes concrete, sweep street gutters; shovels snow, gravel, dirt and sand; rake leaves, and cuts brush. Picks up litter and debris from right-of- ways; cleans up spills by placing sand on them; remove trash and litter from curbs and gutters; rake leaves and use blower; cuts grass. Unloads and stacks supplies. Directs traffic around work site during road repairs. Spread seed, fertilizer and mulch during landscaping. Maintains landscaping, mowing, planting and seeding. Deliver concessions, chemicals and miscellaneous equipment. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment. Picks up garbage and debris as assigned. Applies fertilizer; plants grass and shrubbery. Removes trash from park grounds and buildings; clean rest rooms. Carries out a continuous effort to improve operations, work processes, and works cooperatively and jointly to provide continuous improvement and customer-driven service. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of principles and practices of ground maintenance and landscaping. Geography of the area including major streets and landmarks. Skill in using hand tools and equipment associated with heavy manual labor.
Educational and Training Requirements:
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. This position is required to supervise state inmate labor. Must possess a valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements:
Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. Frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. Must be able to distinguish between shades of color. Work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. May be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts.
