In 2016, we moved to our new, state-of-the-art college prep campus in Delano, and in the Fall of 2017, we added an elementary school in Delano and opened a second charter school in Lost Hills. In Delano, we serve over 1,800 students in grades TK-12, while in Lost Hills, we serve over 400 students in grades TK-12. Job Description Wonderful College Prep Academy is accepting applications for a Success Coach for the GEAR UP program. The Success Coach will initially work with 9th and 10th-grade students at Wonderful College Prep Academy in Lost Hills and will eventually follow the student cohorts throughout high school and into their first year of college. The Success Coach provides academic advising, small group academic advising, mentoring, outreach, and support services to students in our current GEAR UP cohort. The Success Coach will implement activities to improve the number of students with knowledge and experience of different colleges and careers available, encourage high academic achievement in order to obtain goals of attending college and pursuing a career of interest, and make frequent presentations to large groups of students. This position is part-time, and the schedule is as follows:
Monday-Thursday (9 AM - 4:30 PM w/ 30 min lunch). This position does not work during the summer. The Success Coach will report to the GEAR UP Manager. Their responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Weekly 1:1 or small group academic advising (at least 15 student meetings a week) Assess student’s needs, set academic goals, and formulate a comprehensive plan for assistance in collaboration with the student, parent, teachers, counselors, other agencies, and community partners Help support students in the classroom by providing workshops that include goal setting, academic monitoring, career and college research, and readiness Communicate regularly with parents and/or guardians of students to discuss academic progress, obstacles, and needed efforts by students and parents; should include face-to-face contact, phone, e-mail, and other as-needed communication opportunities Help increase family knowledge of career and college opportunities Participate in all meetings and events (field trips, family workshops, etc.) related to GEAR UP Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
BA/BS Degree Two years’ experience with education support services A commitment and passion for educational equity and justice and the desire to work tirelessly on behalf of students from California's Central Valley An eager, flexible learner and problem solver who feels comfortable taking initiative A self-starter with an exceptional work ethic and the ability to work well away from colleagues and management Outstanding written and verbal communication skills An ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate well with scholars A valid California driver's license required Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Pay Rate: $25.00/Hour
