Job Description
Available positions: Full-time weekends and Full-time night shift. Performs all diagnostic/fluoroscopic examinations and other diagnostic radiographic procedures as directed by the Radiologist, Manager of Radiology, or the Senior Supervising Technologist. Recognizes the purpose of employment is to prioritize the patient as "number one (1)" and put forth utmost quality as a Staff Technologist. Aids in scheduling X-Ray examinations and other radiographic procedures if necessary. Performs all radiology imaging procedures. Assists in transporting patients when necessary. Performs all X-Ray diagnostic exams. Provides in-service training according to schedule and documents the same to the Manager of Radiology. Reports service for maintenance of Medical Imaging and other equipment as necessary. Maintains the cleanliness of X-Ray equipment. Places patients at ease and explains to them what will be occurring, performing initial evaluation of the patient through AIDET. Establishes patient I.D. and history with patient records in the chart. Builds rapport with patients to alleviate anxiety. Demonstrates respect for patient modesty, ensuring that patients are properly dressed and explaining that all metal snaps and jewelry must be removed for a quality exam. Positions each patient to prevent unnecessary pain and discomfort, ensuring their dignity is preserved. Ensures the quality of patient imaging by making proper technical settings on the radiographic equipment used. Provides the Radiologist with quality diagnostic information, including name, date, ordering physician, time, markers, and technologist’s initials on film, along with "Opelousas General Health System, Opelousas, Louisiana". Observes all radiology and radiation safety procedures benefiting both the patient and the technologist. Informs each patient that safety procedures have been established to protect them. Completes all work tasks with great consideration for time and quality of patient care, setting personal goals for maximum productivity. Assists others in their work tasks if needed and volunteers assistance in other areas of the Department. Maintains care of equipment to ensure quality examinations can be reproduced consistently, reporting any malfunctions to the Manager of Radiology or Senior Supervising Technologist. Assists in keeping the entire Department clean, observing all infection control policies and procedures. Exercises care in preparing set-up procedure trays and materials used in examinations, using techniques and materials as approved by the Medical Director. Ensures that all employee/patient related incidents are reported to the Manager of Radiology or Senior Supervising Technologist. Reports potential safety hazards to assure patient and employee safety. Reports all allergic reactions to the Radiologist on duty immediately and informs the patient's charge nurse/radiology nurse/nursing supervisor of any IV problems. Performs and carries out other reasonable requests or duties assigned from time to time. Supervises and evaluates LSU-E students. Pursues appropriate continuing education and obtains required education credits as mandated by credentialing organizations and OGHS, including CPR Certification. Participates in the collection of data for QC, QA, CQI, and JCAHO Planning, providing data as needed. Maintains knowledge of and observes universal precautions within the standards of practice of care. Demonstrates competencies in all age categories. Utilizes, follows, and refers to the Policy and Procedure Manual and Procedure Protocol of all modalities, as well as following the OGHS Employee Handbook of Personnel Policies. Cleans all detectors within the Radiology Department after each use.
