MARION CITY SCHOOLS Marion, Ohio POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT Anticipated Opening for the 2025-2026 School Year Title: School Psychologist Department: Student Support Services Responsible To: Director of Student Services Qualifications: Certificate, license, or other legal credential required. Degree(s) required in the area of major study. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Terms of Employment: 184 Day Contract, 21 extended days, salary and benefits. Job Goal: To enable students to derive the fullest possible educational experience from school by identifying and providing recommendations of intervention for academic/behavioral/emotional concerns. Performance Responsibilities:
Ensure the safety of students. Assess difficulties of referred students through appropriate testing and diagnostic practices based on team decisions. Administer tests and/or recommend placement for exceptional and new students. Help identify all types of exceptional students within the school environment. Maintain case records on all referred students. Conduct individual, group, or facilitative therapy for children whose diagnosed problems would benefit from behavior modifications. Confer with teachers and parents when necessary to recommend possible academic/behavioral/emotional interventions. Consult on needs of students who are receiving special education services. Attend case conferences on placement of individual students. Serve as a consultant on mental health topics for staff interpreting the school psychological evaluation for teachers and parents. Prepare and submit psychological education assessments and evaluation team reports. Cooperate with personnel of community health and social welfare agencies. Attend staff, professional, and interagency meetings. Assist with in-service training of school personnel. Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Maintain appropriate licenses/endorsements and training hours as required. Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations. Adhere to all standards established by the Ohio Department of Education for Licensed Educators. Maintain good attendance and punctuality. Maintain knowledge of academic areas, teaching methodology and strategies to engage students. Ability to work effectively with others. Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgment. Maintain confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships. Attend meetings, professional development and serve on staff committees as required. Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents. Refer suspected cases of child abuse immediately to the appropriate child protective services/law enforcement agency as mandated by state law and Board of Education policy. Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect district equipment, materials and facilities. Plan purposeful assignments for educational assistants (para-professionals), volunteers and student teachers.
