The Prince George’s County Office of Central Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Stationary Engineer I/II (Building Engineer I/II) , grade A14/A15 , in the Facilities Operation and Management Division .
About the Position
This is a skilled entry to full-performance level mechanical and manual work in the inspection maintenance, repair, and operation of environmental systems in assigned County owned and leased buildings. The incumbent will regularly inspect the heating, cooling, and ventilating systems making necessary adjustments and repairs for the proper functioning of the system. Upon the satisfactory completion of the probationary period and the attainment of a Second (2nd) Class Stationary Engineer License, incumbent may be promoted to the full performance II level of the Building Engineer class series. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Manager.
About the Agency
The Office of Central Services administers centralized support services for the County Government, including facilities operation and management, contract administration and procurement, fleet management, real estate, construction, administrative services and small, local and the minority business development. Plans, schedules, and leads subordinates in maintaining and performing preventive maintenance on mechanical and non-mechanical systems. Operates building environmental systems, i.e., heating/cooling/ventilation systems, plumbing fixtures, electrical systems, and non-mechanical items. Reviews and completes documentation associated with daily performance. Assists shop and contract personnel with performing work at assigned buildings. Observes all administrative rules and regulations, safety practices and measures, and complies with security regulations at all times. Maintains knowledge of safety rules and regulations in trade areas. Consistently observes good safety practices in accordance with County, Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Demonstrates good knowledge of latest equipment and replacement parts. Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties assigned which may not specifically listed in position description but are within the general category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or GED. Six (6) months in the maintenance, repair, and installation of heating/cooling/ventilating systems experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the required knowledges, skills and abilities. Must possess and maintain a current Third (3rd) Class Stationary Engineer's License issued by the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing, Regulation (D.L.L.R.) Board of Stationary Engineers. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's license with six (6) points or less. Be willing to respond to emergency service calls on a 24-hour basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Comprehensive knowledge and experience of the assembly, adjustment, repair and installation of heating/cooling/ventilating systems. Ability to understand, operate, and troubleshoot Building Automated Systems (B.A.S.), Energy Management Systems (E.M.S.) and other computer-based control and monitoring systems in buildings. Ability to identify problems in the system to ensure early detection of breakdowns.
