The Nuclear Medicine/PET Imaging Technologist performs nuclear medicine In vivo and In vitro procedures using sophisticated radiation-detecting instrumentation (including SPECT and PET), accomplishes computer processing and image enhancement, and provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic and therapeutic interpretation, under the direction of the Nuclear Medicine Radiologists, Nuclear Medicine/PET Imaging Manager/Supervisor, and Imaging Services Leadership. Duties and Responsibilities Imaging Technologist Duties 80% of the time Produces high quality Nuclear Medicine/PET exams utilizing imaging skills for modalities as assigned. Performs Imaging Time Out to ensure correct patient, exam, protocol and laterality are performed. Follows and maintains a thorough understanding of protocols, demonstrating competence in the acquisition and processing of all In vivo amp; In vitro imaging procedures and generating reliable, reproducible results. Safely operates nuclear instrumentation, including Single Photon Emission Computerized Tomography (SPECT) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and/or PET with Computerized Tomography (PET/CT). This is accomplished through training specific to CT, which includes radiation safety for ionizing radiation equipment. Maintains skills in performing duties necessary to complete Nuclear Medicine/PET imaging autonomously, such as inserting intravenous lines, drawing blood, positions ECG leads, taking blood pressures, recognizes and monitors tracing patterns as outlined during orientation and annual competency education. Handles amp; prepares and administers intravenous and/or interventional radiopharmaceuticals consistent with department policy and practice, measuring syringe samples for total activity amp; contaminations checks. Prepares prescribed doses of radiopharmaceuticals and interventional pharmacologics by calculating amount amp; volume of activity according to patient age and/or weight. Administers radiopharmaceuticals and/or interventional pharmacologics intravenously, orally, amp; by inhalation. Obtains a relevant history and assesses the patients physical, psychosocial and educational needs from accompany documents and by interview before each test, and sees that the patient has an adequate understanding of the procedure. Maintains required documentation on patient dose administrations, archive on PACS for easy reference and retrieval. Maintains a radioactively safe environment compliant to the Ohio Department of Health. Uses excellent handling practices with all radioactive materials, including dose administration, waste disposal and area monitoring. Utilizes ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable) dose techniques to produce high quality images. Provides general care to patients so that basic medical amp; comfort needs are satisfied; reacts in emergencies to initiate immediate amp; appropriate treatment. Participates in department call rotations to ensure emergency coverage is maintained. Properly assesses and screens patients for appropriate clinical information and appropriateness for exam indication; provides information to patient/family regarding imaging procedures. Has the authority to accept verbal orders from Licensed Practitioners for imaging procedures, following hospital policy. Completes necessary documentation amp; record keeping in EMR and PACs, on images, consultation/screening forms, maintaining patient confidentiality, and performs other clerical functions as assigned. Quality Assurance/Educational Responsibilities - 20% of time Performs and documents all necessary quality control on nuclear instrumentation (Planar, SPECT and SPECT -CTamp; PET cameras, well counters, uptake probe, dose calibrators, defibrillator and emergency cart, glucose analyzer). Stocks medical and equipment supplies making sure necessary items are available, either by ordering directly or indirectly through the designated department purchaser. Maintains current QA/QC data for assigned equipment and/or protocols within the environment Reports equipment problems to Nuclear Medicine PET/CT supervisor, and may initiate corrective action and document in conjunction with Clinical Engineering and/or Medical Physics division. Maintains required documentation on patient dose administrations, archives on PACS for easy reference and retrieval. Maintains a safe and neat working environment. Ensures continual survey readiness in preparation for survey visits from accrediting or regulatory agencies. Assist in orientation of new employees. Participates in departmental meetings and in services and required educational opportunities. Completes annual and other mandatory competencies by either computer or hands on learning by required deadline. Shares professional/technical expertise with students on clinical rotations. Promotes a positive and collaborative learning environment for students on clinical rotations. Maintains all necessary certifications, trainings and licensure consistent with federal, state, organizational and other regulatory organization rules and guidelines Maintains current RQI, ACLS (where appropriate) certifications as defined by the Medical Center Organizational Expectations Ensures department(s) operates within practice standards and meet minimum standards of American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), Ohio Department of Health (ODH), American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and other regulatory agencies, i.e., American College of Radiology (ACR), Joint Commission (JC), Ohio Department of Health (ODH). Licensure in Radiologic Technology (Nuclear Medicine) by the State of Ohio Department of Health required. Graduate of accredited Nuclear Medicine program required. Position Overview: We're seeking skilled radiologic technologists to provide comprehensive diagnostic imaging services to our veteran population. This role combines general radiography with specialized DEXA scanning expertise. Key Responsibilities: Perform general radiographic procedures Conduct DEXA bone density scans Execute fluoroscopic examinations Process and quality check digital images Maintain radiation safety standards Document patient care and procedures Transport and position patients safely Participate in department quality assurance
