Embodying the values of the organization, the Executive Director will play a key role in shaping the future of the organization and growing the vision of the Board. Job Summary Under the direction of the Perth Care for Kids Board, the Executive Director is responsible for leading the organization in the execution of its strategic plan and towards the achievement of its mission, vision, values, and annual work plan. The Executive Director fosters a positive organizational culture and ensures that the high-performing staff team has the necessary tools and resources to achieve its mission. Duties A. Leadership and Strategy
Provides strategic and operational leadership toward the ongoing development, delivery, and sustainability of an integrated, community-responsive system Collaborates with the Board to develop strategic plans with a focus on alignment between the vision, mission, values, annual work plans, performance metrics, and budgets Establishes an annual work plan for Board approval to effectively implement strategic plans Oversees and supports a diverse team of staff members, fostering a positive work environment that encourages collaboration, professional development, and effective communication Participates in recruitment, training, and performance management of staff Ensures the necessary management information systems are in place to assess the organization’s performance and progress in meeting its objectives Creates, shapes and leads organization-wide change management and business process improvement initiatives Builds the agency’s internal capabilities, including a high-performance culture focused on excellent customer service, problem-solving and continuous improvement Fosters a positive and safe work environment for all
B. Operations Management
Manages day-to-day operations of all Perth Care for Kids programs and services Ensures the delivery of quality programs and conducts regular review of all programs and services Ensures a healthy work environment in accordance with all appropriate regulations and legislations Develops proposals for the enhancement of current programs and establishment of new programs Develops, implements, and reviews organization policies and procedures Maintains overall financial responsibility for the Perth Care for Kids system including compensation programs including the development of an annual operating budget Implements and manages effective internal control systems to protect the organization and adequately maintains and protects organizational assets Develops and executes strategies for generating revenue
C. Governance and Board Relations
Communicates timely and relevant information to the Board of Directors Provides leadership, guidance, and support for the Board in policy setting Ensures the effective implementation of Board policies and decisions Ensures board members are apprised of external issues and liabilities that may impact the organization Prepares and reports measures of performance and progress to the Board and to the appropriate Provincial Ministry as required
D. Compliance and Administration
Ensures the timely and accurate completion of all necessary reports, correspondence, service contracts, leases, certificates, licenses, etc. Addresses and resolves concerns or issues raised by staff, parents, community agencies, or funders Ensures that all program sites are well-maintained and fully compliant with health and safety standards and regulations
E. Community
Promotes the agency and enhances its role in the community Develops and strengthens relationships with government and other agencies, the general public and external partners Builds partnerships with other service providers, community agencies, and government entities to enhance collaboration and support Oversees communication and marketing activities to increase the public’s awareness of Perth Care for Kids Engages the community, including parents/caregivers in the design and delivery of programs and services
F. Other
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications A. Education
University degree in Child Studies, Education, or a related field. Current member of the College of Early Childhood Education considered an asset. Additional education in leadership and/or management are considered an asset.
B. Experience
Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a leadership position within a Child Care or EarlyON setting. Demonstrated ability to lead organizations with experience guiding, mentoring and facilitating individuals and groups towards a vision while maintaining cohesiveness, motivation, commitment and effectiveness Experience developing and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders including but not limited to; clients, community partners, staff, board members, and others.
C. Skills
Ability to cultivate both internal and external relationships Ability to identify key issues/challenges and to develop creative, strategic solutions Focused on team and organizational effectiveness with the ability to maintain accountability for morale, communication, respect and trust Familiarity with legislation applicable to Childcare Operations as well as employment legislation Experience creating and managing budgets Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive and difficult issues in a confidential, timely, and respectful manner Excellent and professional communication skills in a variety of mediums As part the selection process, successful applicants will be required to complete a vulnerable sector background check as well as provide references.
