About the team and the role The IT team at Ocado Retail is a dynamic and innovative group with a wide ranging set of skills and responsibilities. The team is responsible for developing and maintaining the company's technology infrastructure, including its data warehouse, Customer CRM, Product MDM and Workplace tools. They have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that have a real impact on the business using best of breed technologies from Salesforce, Google and Microsoft. The Enterprise Data Architect plays a key role in aligning data strategy with business goals. This strategic position involves collaborating with stakeholders across the organisation to develop and implement data architecture, standards, and practices that support efficient and secure data management. This ensures that data is effectively used to drive decision-making and innovation. Given Ocado Retail's significant investments in Enterprise Data Hub, Product Master Data Management, and Customer CRM tooling, the Enterprise Data Architect will be instrumental in organising, storing, and maintaining data to unlock its potential as a valuable asset. This structured approach to data management will create future opportunities for supplier and customer insights and personalisation.
What you’ll do
Ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with data-related policies and regulations to: Enable better decision-making Reduce operational friction Protect the needs of our data stakeholders Enable ORL to adopt common approach to data issues Build standard, repeatable processes Ensure transparency of processes
Foster a common language within the entire data ecosystem Design data models and standards that enable data sharing and integration across different departments and systems, promoting data consistency and accessibility throughout ORL and where necessary with the broader ecosystem of suppliers and partners. Design, implement, and manage data security frameworks that align with regulatory compliance regimes including GDPR, HIPAA, or CCPA and ensure a resilient fortress around our data assets. Design and implement a scalable and maintainable enterprise data architecture. Develop and maintain data models, data dictionaries, and metadata repositories. Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Ensure data integrity, quality, and security across the enterprise. Define and implement data governance policies and procedures. Implement Data Stewardship which means the formalisation of accountability over the management of data, and the data-related resources.
Key Tasks:
Develop and maintain a comprehensive enterprise data strategy that aligns with business objectives and overarching IT strategy Identify and define data domains for data-driven design and decision-making Document, catalogue and publish existing schemas for data assets and inventory across ORL’s technology and data estate, both structured and unstructured Influence the design and implementation of data integration into a common language. Work closely with business leaders to understand their data needs and translate them into technical requirements. Oversee the integration of various data sources, including transactional systems, CRM, ERP, e-commerce platforms, and external data feeds. Ensure that relevant architecture and design deliverables and decisions align with ORL's data governance policies around data quality, consistency and compliance. Collaborate with data engineers to design and establish ETL/ELT processes that support efficient data movement and transformation. Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and frameworks that enhance data architecture capabilities, including big data, real-time analytics, and AI/ML solutions. Implement data security and access controls. Monitor and optimise data performance. Provide technical leadership and mentoring to data engineers, developers, and analysts Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data architecture and retail analytics. Identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency improvements in data management and analytics processes. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the overall data architecture and support evolving business needs
Who you are
Strong experience in data modeling, data warehousing, and data integration. Big data technologies experience Desirable – experience of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Experience with data management tools and technologies including both relational and NoSQL Proficiency in SQL and data analysis. Experience with data governance and data quality management. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills.
