HW&Co. is a public accounting and consulting firm with around 150 people across five locations in Cleveland, Columbus, and Mansfield. We provide comprehensive business advisory and financial services in auditing and assurance, healthcare, private business advisory, revenue cycle, and tax. Our clients include agribusiness, manufacturing, and privately held companies to name a few, and our specialties lie within healthcare and non-profit clientele. Job Description – HW&Co. is currently seeking a Senior Manager for our Tax department in our Columbus, OH office. Senior Managers are responsible for tax compliance and planning within a variety of projects, and report to Principals and the Director of Tax Services. They have extensive management experience at this point, looking to become a Principal in the next 3-5 years. They review income tax returns for companies and individuals within the Tax department. Job Responsibilities – To support the Firm’s mission and values by exhibiting the following behaviors: accountability, collaboration, excellence, and innovation Become familiar with the Firm’s policies and procedures Have a working knowledge of tax research techniques Have a working knowledge of federal and state tax laws and Firm-specific Tax department practices and procedures Understand the preparation of corporate, individual, partnership, and other tax returns prepared by the Firm Understand and abide by the rules, regulations, and code of conduct of the AICPA Perform the following tax procedures: The Senior Manager level is assigned direct reports who may or may not work on the same engagements they do. They’re the final reviewers before escalation to Department Head, taking on the following roles: Complete the annual evaluation process for all direct reports and contribute as necessary in other evaluations Coach, develop, and mentor less experienced staff, as well as provide ongoing feedback assessing and communicating performance
The Senior Manager level brings more opportunity to interact with leadership across the firm and within your department, taking on the following roles: Serve as a member of the Tax Leadership Team by attending and contributing to leadership meetings Have an awareness of the breadth of HW&Co. services, identifying opportunities within existing clients for additional opportunities and escalating them to Department Head
Technical review of quarterly and yearly tax projections and returns Technical review of corporate, individual, and partnership tax returns Review complex tax calculations and returns Recommend ways to enhance revenue and reduce costs Maintain detailed work papers to support tax provisions and returns Maintain compliance with federal and local tax laws and regulations Improve tax procedures and systems and initiate any corrective actions Improve and manage client relationships Facilitate and manage IRS income tax audits – create schedules, prepare responses, etc. Conduct tax research projects Complete and submit reviewed returns to more experienced staff Assist or lead in business plans and projections Perform other duties as assigned Job Qualifications –
10+ years of public accounting experience Bachelor’s degree in accounting CPA license Detail-oriented with a passion for accuracy Experience with consolidated C-corporations, partnerships, S-corporations, individual and/or multi-state tax returns Expert in accounting software (Access, CaseWare and/or SureLink is preferred) Great verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational skills and time management The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information The ability to interact with clients and employees of all levels of the Firm
