Summary The Clinical Audiologist will provide diagnostic audiologic services and aural rehabilitation/habilitation, including amplification and counseling to children and adults within the Center and outside the Center. The clinical audiologist may also provide group aural rehabilitation therapy for adventitiously hearing-impaired adults or for those individuals obtaining amplification through our Hearing Aid Program. Essential Functions/Primary Job Responsibilities Act as a case manager for those patients to whom he or she has been assigned. May organize and conduct community consumer educational or aural rehabilitation seminars at the Center and outside the Center. Will carry out policies and procedures as described in the Audiology Policies and Procedures. Shall accept responsibility for special projects as assigned by the Assistant Director of Audiology as time allows (public relations work, speaking engagements, in-services, donor hearing aid program, etc.). Will be available for patient appointments during regularly scheduled clinic hours. Will attend general staff meetings, continuing education training, and participate in at least one Center volunteer activity every year. Minimum Qualifications And Experience The clinical audiologist shall minimally hold an audiology Clinical Doctorate. Experience working with Pediatrics. Licensure/Certification The clinical audiologist must hold or be actively working toward obtaining a license in Audiology from the Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Preferred Experience Experience with Cochlear Implants. Educational audiology. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds, must be able to sit on the floor to interact with young children for extended periods of time, and must be able to move efficiently and quickly from one position to another. Supervisory Responsibility This position does not supervise staff. They do have the opportunity to work with graduate students. Work Environment This position is held in a clinical setting. The primary purpose of the Audiologist is to diagnose and treat patients with a variety of ear and hearing issues and disorders, function as an independent professional and service provider who supports the internal otolaryngology physicians, as well as external referring doctors and sources. They also determine the type and degree of hearing impairment and implement habilitation and rehabilitation services. Additionally, this role will assist the marketing and administrative team in the development of marketing strategies and initiatives to promote growth of the audiology practice. This role will report to the Medical Director. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Administer hearing tests and examines patients to collect information on type and degree of impairment for both clinical support & hearing devices. Evaluate hearing and balance disorders to determine diagnoses and courses of treatment. Maintain patient records at all stages, including initial and subsequent evaluation and treatment activities. Fit, dispense, and repair assistive devices, such as hearing aids. Plan and conduct treatment programs for patients' hearing or balance problems, consulting the necessary health care personnel as needed. Counsel and instruct patients and their families in techniques to improve hearing and communication related to hearing loss. Monitor patients' progress and provides ongoing observation of hearing. Instruct patients in communication strategies to maximize effective receptive communication. Recommend assistive devices according to patients' needs or nature of impairments. Refer patients to additional medical or educational services if needed. Educate and supervise audiology students and health care personnel. Develop and supervise hearing screening programs. Examine and clean patients' ear canals. Have an awareness of operating cost and fulfill responsibility to contain cost. Record daily activities in Sycle. Must be able to work in team environment.
