Incumbent serves as Maintenance for the Hancock County buildings, responsible for maintaining various assigned County facilities and grounds.
DUTIES : Perform preventive maintenance checks throughout assigned buildings and grounds, developing and implementing maintenance programs, including maintaining multiple buildings to good working order and code.
Respond to maintenance requests and complete basic maintenance duties throughout County buildings and grounds.
Conduct building inspections and troubleshoot and repair electrical problems throughout facilities.
Maintain building yards and grounds, including sweeping sidewalks, picking up trash, mowing, planting, trimming hedges, raking leaves, and removing snow and ice in winter months.
Assist with transport and delivery of materials.
Operate a variety of hand and/or power tools, including hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, power saws, mops, and brooms.
Operate machinery and equipment such as pallet jacks, manlifts, and delivery trucks.
Serve on a 24-hour call for maintenance emergencies.
Perform related duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE : High school diploma or GED.
Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
Ability to meet all employer and department hiring requirements, including background checks, pre-employment drug screening, CVSA, and motor vehicle record check.
Working knowledge of OSHA safety policies and procedures, and basic janitorial, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and sanitation requirements.
Ability to analyze mechanical and electrical malfunctions and perform related maintenance and safety measures.
Ability to operate hand and power tools and machinery such as pallet jacks, manlifts, and delivery trucks.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, specifications, and technical manuals; use shop/technical mathematics.
Physical ability to perform maintenance duties, including lifting, reaching, bending, climbing ladders, and working in various positions.
Ability to work independently and in a team, multitask, and work under pressure.
Effective communication skills, respecting diversity and confidentiality.
Compliance with policies and work rules, including safety and conduct standards.
Ability to serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including handling hostile situations.
Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and respond to emergencies.
Possession of a valid Indiana driver’s license and a safe driving record.
RESPONSIBILITY : The incumbent performs maintenance duties based on a daily schedule, prioritizing work according to supervisor instructions and policies. Errors could result in damage or safety hazards. Reports directly to the Facility and Maintenance Director.
PHYSICAL EFFORT : Involves continuous physical exertion such as standing, walking, lifting over 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and working in various positions and environments.
WORKING CONDITIONS : Primarily outdoors and in garages, exposed to hazards like heavy tools, noise, dust, chemicals, and weather conditions. May require extended hours, evenings, weekends, and responding to emergencies.
