Duties & Responsibilities

Practices economical use of supplies. 19. Has knowledge of Fire and Disaster Procedures. 20. Has knowledge of Cardiac Arrest Procedures. 21. Has knowledge of location of fire alarms, fire extinguisher and fire hose. 22. Participation in Performance Improvement activities.

Minimum Qualifications 1. Holds and maintains a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); or 2. Successful completion of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists or successful completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist credential administered by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization other than the NBSTSA, such as the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).

Special Note : Effective January 1, 2015, any employee who functions as a Surgical Technologist will be required to annually complete fifteen (15) hours of continuing education in order to remain qualified to perform the functions of a Surgical Technologist at an NYC Health + Hospitals facility.
