Description: We are seeking a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) with current California State licensure to perform sample collection, includes collection of throat and nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs, from healthy volunteers participating in the Associate Sample Collection Program (ASCP). The ASCP is a volunteer program whereby BD associates donate clinical specimens to support BD’s diagnostic assay development. These specimens are a valuable resource for the R&D product development teams in that they mimic real patient specimens. The ASCP is run under an IRB-approved protocol whereby all patients are consented and all samples are de-identified prior to use for product development purposes. The successful candidate will perform nasopharyngeal and throat swab specimen collection at mutually agreed upon times (usually 5-6 hours duration) on an as needed basis (typically 3 days/week). Additional tasks required: a. Prepare Sample-collection Kits for self-collected samples by sample donors – instructions will be provided. b. Help sending recruitment/scheduling emails to the potential/consented study participants to recruit them or schedule weekly collection activities. c. Pickup and Dropoff the new and used kits from designated spots in 5 building locations within 1-2 miles distance. d. After picking up the used kits with self-collected samples in them along with the collection log, able to reconcile them e. Reconciling samples involves reading the one-page collection logs and cross-checking them for consenting status, proper documentation by subjects, etc. f. Adding some notes on these collection logs, based on their findings and putting them in order to provide them to the site-coordinator. g. Help communicate with the subjects about any errors in documentation for correction, and/or missing consent and follow through with actions, as trained. h. Separating the samples from this identifying document i.e. collection log (de-identifying) and put them together and either provide these samples to the teams, or store them in refrigerator or freezer, as directed. i. Provide support inputting the data from the collection activities into the ASCP electronic database and secure servers. j. Help tracking and filing all the relevant documents for records in the site’s study binders and electronic files. k. Helping with site-level activities to run the program as a backup, as assigned and needed. l. They will be provided with access and training for all the above-mentioned duties. Initial training will be provided by on-site staff but thereafter the LPN will work independently with the ASCP staff to execute their duties. Minimum qualifications are LPN certificate or degree qualification plus a minimum of one year of practical nursing experience. Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline preferred. Proficient in basic computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel). Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required as the candidate will be the primary contact for the Baltimore campus ASCP. Phlebotomy experience considered a plus as candidate could also assist with occasional blood collections.
