The School of Nursing and Health Sciences Department of Public Health at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a 10-month, non-tenure-track Clinical Specialist position, to join our community starting in the fall semester of 2025. The position is offered for an initial two-year appointment, with potential for renewal for a second two-year appointment and subsequent three-year appointments based on performance.
Position Summary:
In this clinical specialist faculty role, there will be a need to develop, implement, teach and assess the following public health courses for undergraduate and graduate public health students: epidemiology, biostatistics, and research methods with a special focus on data analysis packages like SPSS, and R and SAS, with the possibility of fulfilling other public health teaching responsibilities across the curriculum. Provision of high-quality instruction presented in didactic and practice sessions within the context of the public health curriculum is expected. Clinical specialist faculty are expected to teach 24-faculty weighted hours per academic year, equating to 4 units (4 courses) per semester, demonstrate innovation and excellence in the classroom while facilitating student mastery of core learning outcomes. There is strong interest in candidates whose teaching and practice can connect and integrate with other disciplines. We are particularly looking for individuals with a focus on topics like mental health epidemiology, injury and violence prevention, environmental epidemiology, or cancer epidemiology. Applicants must have or demonstrate: ●
A minimum of Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) at the time of the appointment. ●
A minimum of 3-years’ experience teaching public health courses at the collegiate level, including integrating public health practice learning experiences in the classroom. ●
Strong communication skills in writing, speaking, and presenting with a teaching/learning philosophy that reflects a diversity of thought and experience. ●
Cultural competency and the ability to foster inclusive learning environments and mutual respect for students and colleagues.
Preferred qualifications:
●
Doctorate or similar terminal degree in a public health related field. ●
Experience with college/university personnel, policies and procedures. ●
Experience with current best pedagogical practices in teaching adult learners. ●
Experience with best pedagogical and technological practices for online teaching. ●
Demonstrate experience with community based public health practice OR active research experience demonstrated through publications and/or grants.
