The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Southern Recreation and Leisure Services Division is seeking a Facility Director (Revenue) to provide professional recreation and park facility management of the Southern Area Aquatic and Recreation Complex (SAARC), a multi-generational recreational complex. Under direct supervision of the Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex Facility Manager performs full scope of professional revenue management work involving considerable responsibility complexity and variety. Facility Director (Revenue) is responsible for managing all revenue-based programs to include rentals, special events, concessions, memberships, classes and product sales. Responsible for applying technical expertise in the development and management of diverse sporting, recreational, and cultural programs. The position's work assignments often include special projects requiring a comprehensive knowledge and application of enterprise business practices and the administration of park and recreation programs in order to plan and implement innovative and successful revenue-generating programs critical to the department. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Please note that the salary above represents earning potential. The budgeted salary range for this position is $61,730 - $85,528 . Salary is commensurate with experience.
Examples of Important Duties
Identify specific target groups including an estimation of how many individuals may be within each of those targeted groups. Ensure that the number of participants in the targeted groups are high enough to account for the typical conversion rate and still reach the target sales goal. Develops, implements and manages membership, marketing, sales and retention plans to promote membership growth. Coordinates special events and activities. Manage work program in a fiscally sound manner; maintaining budget, preparing annual budget plans, monthly monitoring reports, session programs reports and contingency plans as needed. Manages Cafe Snack Bar and Vending Operations; overseeing snack bar equipment and inventory. Controls inventory and ensures accuracy of sales and inventory records. Receives and maintains all necessary certifications and oversees daily operations. Plan and develop the intended service or experience you plan to sell by identifying the types of groups that the service or experience would appeal to and who are likely to purchase. Directs membership sales. Manages membership campaigns and guiding tour activities, including staff training for tours and overseeing the schedule of tours. Develop and manage packages and ongoing incentive based programs to encourage stronger purchasing behavior from the target markets. Supervises intermittent staff within a complex. Plans, schedules and assigns work. Recruits, interviews and trains staff. Evaluates work, counsels and mentors staff, manages Performance Improvement Plans, approves timecards, initiates personnel procedures for hiring, and recommends disciplinary action. Approves leave requests. Coordinates, with the Public Affairs and Community Engagement Division to create and manage a marketing plan for SAARC. Meets with citizens, community groups, and business groups to identify needs, plan programs, and answer questions about facility programs. Investigates complaints involving highly sensitive issues and problems. Manages and coordinates a wide variety of cultural, interpretive, historical or recreational programs and activities. Allocates staff and resources to accomplish program goals. Develops, plans, organizes, and coordinates specialized recreational or park programs and activities based upon research and information gathered. Recommends and monitors program fees. Conduct staff meetings, in-service trainings and perform all supervisory functions, including but not limited to staffing requirements, employment procedures and implementation, and evaluations. Maintain proper records on staff, volunteers, membership statistics, sales and retention. Develop, produce, and distribute program information necessary to promote assigned programs, in accordance with membership and marketing plans. Maintain expert knowledge of the revenue management, pricing and related business procedures and tools for managing pricing. Report results, review data and provide pricing recommendations for consideration. Communicate regularly with the Complex Manager, Assistant Manager, Aquatics Manager and the Fitness Manager regarding pricing rates or proposed adjustments. Report on financial performance results and provide updates to the management team as requested. Show annual growth in revenue producing programs (i.e., membership, sales, and rentals).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation, Facility Management, Recreation Management, Education, Business Administration, Physical Education, Communication, Leisure Services, or any related field. Two (2) years of responsible professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, leisure services, or area of required specialty (e.g., arts, performing arts, equestrian, tennis, aquatics, gymnastics, ice rinks); including one (1) year as a facility manager, program coordinator or supervisor. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years. Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of the position. Contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require valid: (a) operating license (e.g., county pool operator, childcare license) as appropriate; (b) First Aid, CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED) certifications; or (c) certifications as related to assignment (e.g., Lifeguard Instruction, Fundamentals of Gymnastics).
