General Description
The Orange County Department of Social Services has two openings for a Human Services Coordinator I. The work involves the responsibility for leading the work of and providing continuing training to Human Services Specialists and Human Services Technicians. An employee in this class leads a team in application processing, determination, and re-determination of eligibility for one or more public assistance programs. An employee in this class troubleshoots issues and trains employees on the use of related software applications.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Human Services Supervisor with leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs and requests and conducting project assignments. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Position does related work as required. Hiring range is based on the Orange County Social Services Step Plan. The Step Plan is based on years of Human Services Coordinator I experience. Full credit is given for years of experience performing the same job functions. Partial credit is given for years of experience performing related job functions. The top half of the scale is reserved for career employees with senior level experience in the same role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in human services field such as social work, counseling, or psychology or closely related field; OR
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in human services field such as social work, counseling, or psychology or closely related field AND two (2) years of work experience in social work or counseling and/or work experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization; OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience. Must have one (1) year of work experience in leading teams or coordinating the work of others. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. All offers of employment are conditioned upon successful clearance of a background check. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared. As with all positions with the Department of Social Services, this position may be required to serve in shelters in time of natural and man-made disasters including overnight and weekends. The duties assigned during this time may vary from your regularly assigned duties. Assigned duties will be at the discretion of the Social Services Director. Orange County pays for an employee short term disability policy that provides income protection up to 11 weeks with a weekly benefit of 70% of your weekly salary.

Orange County contributes $100 per pay period ($2600.00 annually) for supplemental retirement and you will have the option to select between which investment firm you would like to have these funds contributed to.
