Job Description
The He brew Free Loan Association (HFLA) of Washington State helps Washington State Jewish residents with interest-free loans. HFLA offers no-interest, no-fee loans that provide a safety net and a gateway to opportunity for the Washington State Jewish community. We are the only provider of interest-free loans in the state. HFLA was incorporated in Washington in 1914 and has been helping our Jewish community since then.Position SummaryThe Executive Director, reporting to the Board of Directors, will partner with the Board to execute HFLA’s mission with donors and the broader Jewish community. The Executive Director is responsible for the organization’s achievement of its mission and financial objectives. The Executive Director will work with the Board on strategic planning and implementation, effectively manage HFLA’s programs and loan procedures, and lead fundraising and communication efforts while overseeing day-to-day administrative operations and HFLA staff.This is a part-time position (28 - 35 hours/week) with a flexible schedule and includes some weekend availability. Review at 6 months. While remote, the successful candidate must reside within the Puget Sound area. The office is closed on Fridays.Start Date: Prefer January - March 2025Role Responsibilities:Leadership and Board Engagement Attend Board meetingsWork with the Board of Directors in strategic, fundraising, and annual planningSupport the Board of Directors in implementing annual plans and goalsCreate and send board packets, including agendas, director’s reports, financial reports, etc.Ensure required records (e.g., meeting notes, program documents, and legal documents) are stored appropriatelyEnsure that the Board is kept informed on the condition of the organization and factors influencing itEnsure job descriptions are developed, that regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices are in placeEncourage and support staff development and educationMaintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a staff of top-quality peopleFundraising and Stakeholder Engagement Create and implement an annual fundraising plan with the Board of DirectorsActively work to raise funds and operate within the annual budgetSupport Board members in engaging in fundraising by identifying, soliciting, and stewarding donorsPlan, lead, and implement the annual Brunch fundraiser event with the Development CommitteeSearch for and apply for grants applicable to HFLA’s missionPublicize the activities of the organization, its programs, and goalsManage website and issue monthly or bi-monthly e-newslettersCommunicate important program application dates with The Federation, Synagogues, the SJCC etc.Manage the Life & Legacy program and maintain coordination with program partners: The Jewish Federation and Harold Grinspoon FoundationManage outreach and appreciation programs and communications for HFLA Lifetime MembersEstablish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizationsProgrammatic Oversight and Management Actively manage the daily operations of the organizationProvide daily supervision to the staff (currently consisting of Loan Coordinator, Bookkeeper, and Accountant)Facilitate information flow to staff and vendors to ensure they can complete their work promptlyOversee General and Mini Loan Programs, including application, determination, and repayment aspectsOversee Scholarship Program and Student Access Fund, including application, determination, and announcementWork with the Board Treasurer, Finance committee, and the Board to prepare an annual budgetWork with Board, Treasurer, bookkeeper, and accountant to support monthly financial reporting and reconciliationEstablish effective and consistent borrower vetting procedures with the Loan Coordinator, Loan Committee, and BoardMaintain official records and documents and ensure compliance with federal state regulations, including non-profit status filingsMaintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the fieldIdeal Candidate The ideal candidate will be familiar with the Jewish community and donors of Puget Sound. They will have previous experience with grant writing and reporting as well as general fundraising. They should be self-motivated, self-disciplined, and comfortable in multiple aspects of non-profit operations. Prior experience and comfort managing budgets and staff.
