Reports To: Director of Student Services Schedule: 9 Months; August-May FLSA Status: Non-Exempt; Hourly
Job Summary:
MHCS desires those who feel called to work with students with special needsand in a ministry. A Christ-centered special needs paraprofessional is needed to fulfill this role in our school ministry. The ideal candidate will prayerfully help students learn attitudes and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible Christians to the praise and glory of God, focusing on supporting students with special needs. This role involves working alongside the student services team and possibly assigned teachers. All special needs paraprofessionals are expected to complete the required training and coursework that MHCS provides. We also desire that our special needs paraprofessionals reflect the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ in every class and every activity. Minimum Qualifications:
Show evidence of Christian maturity Have a strong grasp of the essence of Christian education Experience and/or willingness to work with students with special needs Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training - training provided
Holds a high school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements:
Use of computer or telephone, as needed, to perform duties Be able to stand, sit, walk, reach, and bend Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Core Functions
Support the assigned students and/or class of students by caring for their educational, physical, emotional, and behavioral needs while affirming their abilities and assisting those areas they require support in Provide small group and tutorial instruction and supervision, as needed or assigned Work in close coordination with any teachers, the student services team, and other paraprofessionals who support the assigned students needs Communicate effectively with staff, students, and/or parents Use de-escalation techniques and behavior modifications, as needed, from the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training method Work closely with the assigned teacher to assist in the planning and implementation of classroom curriculum in an age-appropriate manner to meet the cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of the students Assist in the management and discipline of students; maintain control of students respectfully and responsibly at all times
