Job Description Job Description ESTIMATION ENGINEER Salary: $75,000 to $110,000 Estimation engineers perform various functions which primarily involve providing detailed estimates for a project based on the construction drawings, specifications, and scope of work. They are also responsible for the communication of bids and scope of work to PM, supervisors, and contractors/subcontractor in a clear and easy-to-understand manner. The core tasks, duties, and responsibilities that typically make up the estimation engineer job description are listed below:
Responsible for providing complete quantity take-off, analysis, and estimate, and studies for all deliverables involved in the assigned scope
Identify design and constructability issues and analysis to determine constructability
Define more cost-efficient alternatives to the proposed scope of project
Act as a connection between subcontractors, design team (engineers, consultants), and client
Responsible for preparing and assembling bids and proposals for various contract types
Determine required but non indicated scope through the analysis of site conditions and all contract documents (plans specifications, etc.)
Collaborate with operations staff and other estimators to ensure that General Conditions and Requirement items are appropriately captured in the estimate
Perform assessment on subcontractor proposals to ascertain if scope is covered and also manage the risk of scope gaps
Proffer suggestions to Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product Management or others as appropriate authority for contemplated expenditures. Shown below are major estimation engineer requirements you may be expected to satisfy if you are seeking the position:
Education: To work as an estimator engineer, applicants are required to have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience
Knowledge: They must possess practical estimating or engineering experience, specific knowledge of estimating techniques, and ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems. ). It is also important that they can utilize technical diagramming tools software.
Computer skills: It is also important that applicants for the estimation engineer role have proficient skills with Microsoft office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Communication and interpersonal skills: In executing their job, estimation engineers communicate with various stakeholders and also act as interface with the project owners, contractors, project managers, etc. Therefore, it is important that applicants have great communication and relationship building skills
Analytical Skills: It is important for estimation engineers to analyze preliminary data, historical data, construction sites, and deliverables, etc., to determine the scope of work and project estimate. It is important that they have exceptional analytical skills to utilize every piece of information they need and arrive at valid estimates for a project
Collaboration skills: The estimation engineer job also involves working with different teams, including engineers, marketers, buyers, and project management professionals to actualize a project.
