Job Description Job Description Instrumentation & Electrical Technician The purpose of this position is to install and maintain instrumentation, electrical, power and control systems for the facility. This position reports to the I&E Superintendent. Roles: Maintain system: completing regular PM maintenance, recommending solutions to problems, and general maintenance of the systems. Repair: Troubleshoots, fabricates, modifies, removes, repairs, overhauls, or replaces parts or equipment on instrumentation and electrical systems. Inspect and Test: constantly inspecting and testing systems to ensure there are no errors or issues Installation: analysis current systems, recommend when new product or changes are needed, and install new system as needed. Responsibilities: Ability to operate, perform basic and routine maintenance, and troubleshoot equipment. Maintenance of equipment based on written documentation pertaining to the job including work orders using the CMMS software. Responsible for the maintenance, testing, inspection, and coordinating the safe operation of all instrumentation and electrical equipment or systems. Provide accurate records of all instrumentation and electrical equipment. Troubleshoots, fabricates, modifies, removes, repairs, overhauls, or replaces parts or equipment on instrumentation and electrical systems. Installs new system controls. Responsible for instrument calibrations. Services and replaces instruments. Low voltage monitors/breakers and control circuits Performs general electrical maintenance. Running electronic tests and inspections Install electrical systems and grounding to NEC standards. Use of tools, including tape measure, meggers, multi-meters, and other related test equipment. Responsible for advanced electrical troubleshooting and repair of electrical and instrumentation systems. Resource for Process Reliability improvement efforts as well as root cause problem solving. Project support as needed. Ability to attend and successfully complete internal/external training courses determined by the company to maintain/build technical capabilities. Assist in the development, implementation, and periodic review of preventive/predictive maintenance programs to reduce unplanned shutdowns and improve overall plant capability. Keep abreast of and evaluate new methodologies, work practices, equipment, instrumentation, controls, technology for application and use within the plant. Assist in the development and ongoing improvement of the plant mechanical integrity program. Responsible for installation, programming, calibration, and preventive maintenance for electrical equipment to improve field system operation/uptime and reduce total operating costs. Adheres to the area equipment Preventive Maintenance program. Complete preventive maintenance check lists. Develops work plans covering installation, calibration, inspection, and troubleshooting tasks, to minimize production impacts and enhance the reliability of the operation. Repairing, replacing, and installing conduit, wiring and electrical equipment. Working with the departments to troubleshoot, repair and replace controls communication networks. Troubleshoot process upsets. Scanning energized electrical circuitry using infrared technology. Lead the Top Helper safely and efficiently. Read and understand maintenance/operations manuals for equipment specifications parts and procedures to make proper and timely repairs. Maintain good housekeeping practices. Maintain effective communications, provide ideas, raise concerns, and work with other functions including plant supervision, engineering, plant operations, I&E, other maintenance employees, clerical staff, and contractors. Provide assistance to other maintenance craft, as qualified. Other duties as assigned. Expectations: 100% Preventive Maintenance completed accurately and timely. 100% installation with no issues and minimal downtime to the workload for operations. 100% work safely. Qualifications and Education Requirements: Must be 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED is required. Instrument and/or electrical training, degree, or certification. Proficient knowledge of basic electrical circuitry, 1-3 years’ experience as an Industrial Electrician, preferred. Certification or Degree in Instrumentation Technology, or 1-3 years’ experience with industrial process measurement and control systems.
Proficient knowledge of basic electrical circuitry and ability to follow loop and electrical schematics. Experience and proficiency in troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, repair and testing of equipment. Proficiency in computer controls programming logic is a plus. Proficiency in process and instrumentation diagrams. Ability to use the computer and the CMMS system. Ability to read and comprehend P&ID’s and electrical schematics. Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card. Must possess and maintain a valid US driver’s license. Must pass all pre-employment testing including a drug test, physical and background check. Physical Demands: Ability to work at elevated heights, including using lifts, ladders, and stairs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Work is done outdoors; must be comfortable working in all weather conditions. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Position Details: Shift work - must be available and flexible to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays. Will be subject to Call out. Non-Exempt position.
