Summer Camp COUNSELOR The Summer Camp Director's primary location will be at the Hammond recreation Center, responsible for assisting with organization, planning, leading and teaching of one or more activity classes of the camping program including: nature study, arts and crafts, sports, games, music, special features, events or field trips. Position Runs from 04/07/2025 to 08/01/2025 Examples of Duties Duties include, but are not limited to:
Assisting with organization, planning, leading and teaching of one or more activity classes of the camping program including: nature study, arts and crafts, sports, games, music, special features, events or field trips Acting as advisor, counselor, and go to person for the group of participants Communicating, enforcing, and adhering to rules and regulations for operation, safety and welfare of participants Reporting to supervisor on activities, participants, plans, programs, problems and needs: recommending action, carrying our policies and objectives of programs Maintaining appropriate records, inventories, making report
Typical Qualifications Education Required Successful completion of 2 years College, preferably in Recreation, Physical Education, Elementary Education or related discipline desired; High School Graduation and sufficient experience working with youth may be substituted Additional Requirements Ability to direct and actively participate in activities with 10 to 15 active children between 5-14 years old; must be an experience and active swimmer; Ability to communicate clear and concisely work with campers, staff, parents, and general public. Leadership skills to include the ability to inspire confidence and enthusiasm to the recreation staff, participants, and parents; Ability to make mature decisions affecting the safety and well-being of children; Skilled and active participation in varied sports/recreation activities such as bowling, skating, field games, etc. Supplemental information AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT COMPLIANCEThe City of Hammond is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
