Job Description Job Description Description: Position Overview: The Habilitation Specialist is an active and integral member of the day habilitation team at 360 Total Care, dedicated to supporting and enhancing the lives of participants with developmental disabilities. This position involves extensive community interaction as specialists accompany participants to various activities and events within and around the city, advocating for and assisting them in their social and personal development.
Responsibilities:
Community Engagement (5 Hours Daily): Accompany participants to various community locations such as parks, libraries, volunteer sites, and recreational centers. Actively participate in activities alongside participants, modeling and encouraging engagement.
Skill Development: Support participants in building essential life and social skills, such as communication, teamwork, and independence. Provide hands-on assistance in activities such as volunteering, community navigation, and recreational pursuits.
Participant Support: Foster a supportive, inclusive, and respectful environment. Assist participants with daily needs, including personal care (toileting, hygiene) and toilet training, ensuring safety and dignity. Work with participants who may have extensive behaviors, using training and strategies to provide support and guidance.
Volunteering Coordination: Facilitate and support volunteer opportunities, encouraging participants to give back to their communities. Build positive relationships with local organizations and community partners.
Documentation and Reporting: Accurately document daily activities, goals achieved, and participant progress. Maintain compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
Transportation: Transport participants safely to and from community activities, if required.
Requirements:Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have a current Medication Administration Certificate or be willing to enroll in our program within the first 30 days of employment. Complete 8 hours of required training or enroll in our training classroom to fulfill this requirement. Hold a valid CPR and First Aid Certificate or be available to enroll in our classroom training to obtain it before working with clients. Valid driver’s license with fewer than 6 points on the record and current auto insurance. Ability to pass a comprehensive 7-point background check . Must pass BCI/FBI background checks if residency in Ohio has been 5 years or less . Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to manage challenging behaviors, and adapt at building relationships and advocating for others. This ensures all candidates meet the necessary safety, training, and compliance standards essential for supporting our participants. Physical and Mental Demands:
Physical ability to participate in community activities, operate large vehicles, and assist with mobility needs of participants. Mental resilience and emotional stability to handle the dynamic nature of the work and participant needs effectively.
Work Environment:
This role is based in a day habilitation center but requires extensive travel within the community. Specialists should expect to be active and mobile, engaging with participants in various settings throughout the city.

Being out and engaged shows the value of inclusion and helps break down stereotypes or misunderstandings about individuals with developmental disabilities. By forming relationships with local businesses, organizations, and neighbors, staff create opportunities for participants to feel welcomed and part of the community. Advocacy is a big part of this too—staff can share what makes our participants unique and capable, helping others see their strengths and contributions. This kind of involvement not only supports the participants but also encourages the community to be more open and accepting of everyone.
