Staff Accountant Job Description We are a small National non-profit focused on bridging the political divide. We have built a grassroots network of members and volunteers across the country where we offer depolarizing workshops and debates at colleges, community organizations and even Congress. We have our corporate office in NYC and a network of employees across the country. We are looking for a full time remote staff accountant. Your primary role will be to ensure all financial activities are executed in a timely and efficient manner. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual who can work well independently. This position reports to the Director of Finance.
Responsibilities Accurately input accounting data into QuickBooks ensuring records are up to date Enter check and ACH donations into Salesforce database and report weekly gifts to the Finance and Development teams Assist with managing membership donations and processing refunds as needed Enter and maintain all payable and receivable accounts Process vendor payments Assist the Director of Finance in grant tracking through utilization of job and class functions in QuickBooks Make journal entries to support month-end closing Maintain a digital filing system for all finance records to meet annual audit requirements Assist the Director of Finance in gathering and submitting documents to the CPA for annual audit and tax returns Manage users on the Bill Spend & Expense platform and ensure receipts are timely filed
Qualifications/Skills Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred (equivalent experience also considered) 3 years accounting experience – preferably non profit Proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Word and Excel Strong knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as a team Efficient at time management and meeting deadlines Attention to detail to ensure accuracy on financial tasks
