Role Description We are seeking a certified veterinary technician, or prior experience as a surgical technician in a specialty/emergency hospital. This vital role provides advanced surgical support to our orthopedic surgeons and neurologist to ensure the highest standard of patient care. This position involves assisting with complex surgical procedures, preparing surgical suites, maintaining surgical equipment, and supporting post-operative care. The technician collaborates closely with the specialty surgery team and our ICU team to deliver exceptional service to patients and clients. Qualifications and Skills
Education and Certification: Associate or bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology or a related field a plus. Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, or LVT) a preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a veterinary surgical setting. Familiarity with advanced surgical procedures and techniques.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery. Knowledge of surgical instruments, aseptic techniques, and wound management.
Soft Skills: Enjoys communicating with clients and building positive relationships with pet owners during their pet's care journey. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle stressful situations with composure. Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of multitasking.
Key Responsibilities
Surgical Preparation and Assistance : Prepare the surgical suite, instruments, and equipment for specialty procedures. Intravenous catheter placement and endotracheal intubation Assist surgeons during procedures by anticipating needs and maintaining a sterile field. Ensure proper handling and disposal of surgical materials.
Anesthesia Monitoring: Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs. Induce, monitor, and recover patients under anesthesia, ensuring their safety and comfort. Maintain accurate records of anesthesia parameters and communicate changes to the surgical team.
Patient Care: Perform pre-operative evaluations, including obtaining vital signs and diagnostic samples. Set up intravenous fluids and CRI’s. Provide compassionate post-operative care, including monitoring recovery and administering medications. Educate clients on at-home care instructions and post-operative follow-up.
Equipment Maintenance: Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments and equipment. Perform routine checks and troubleshooting of specialized surgical tools and technology.
Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with the surgery team and other departments to ensure seamless patient care. Communicate effectively with clients, providing updates and addressing concerns.
Compliance and Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate medical records, including surgical notes and anesthesia logs. Adhere to hospital protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
